Rupert_2
A boring Saturday night before I go out and I thought if this... Has anyone thought of doing a Spanish Civil War mod for CMBB?? Any takers ???
MikeT
Yep, for me the biggest sticking point would be the Spanish speech files. The other matters, vechicle and uniform mods, could be arranged by pestering various modders. Many wouldn't mind the project, IMHO. Hans
YES, I find that the SCW is a excellent environment for CMBB. The opportunity for Mods in SCW is vast-and untouched. From the T-26s, to Carlist, POUM, Anarchist, Moroccan, Falagist and regular Spanish infantry with a variety of uniforms, to the Spanish Foreign legion, the American Abraham Lincoln Brigade to Pz Is, Italians, armoured lorries and bizarre homemade armoured cars - endless. I've done a number of scenario (at scenario depot) http://ns9.super-hosts.com/~dragonlair.net/combatmission/ on this and have a dozen more in the pipeline. Raid on Madrid Cerro de los Angeles Non Parasan! La Corunna Road 1936 Albandero coming soon Quinto del Ebro Batalion Thaelmann Sesena San Miguel Valley (operation-fictional) Jarama valley CTV University of Madrid etc
Rupert_2
I'm glad you both answered this post, I thought you would Mike. I never thought of the speech files , though they would be the major problem as you said. Though I would love to see mods just to go with Hans' great scenarios. Good work Hans, hope to see more of your work.
Hans
There is a small CMBB community in Spain which is represented by a poster named Cagi-Chemi(?) he has been most helpful with local info. He is a good tie in with the Spanish (and many Italians because of the ir involvement in Spain) interested in SCW.
mchlstrt
I'm Modding the T-26 line (slowly but surely). If there are any Paint Schemes or Markings for these Vehicles in that War I'd be happy to do them up. mchlstrt@hotmail.com My little contribution to The Cause. An overlooked & underappreciated part of History, it seems to me. A historical question, were there any International Brigades that met elements of their own country's Armed Forces in combat? strt
Hans
(mods) I will look for that, they had several different sets of marking, especially the ones captured by the Nationalist and used by the Moroccans. International Brigade vs own nationality Yes the most famous was the meeting of the Italian CTV during the battle Guadalahara with the communist Garibaldi Brigade - rather vicious. Several less well document encounters were Nationalist Irishmen (IRA reps) meeting the British Battalion outside of Madrid. Several meetings of white russian, Yugoslavs etc with their red/socialist counter-parts in the Dimitrov battalion and others. Plus a particular nasty meeting of the German Communist Thaelmann battalion with the Spanish Foreign Legion which included German and German speaking members members in 1936. Included I believe the sending of explosives (up and down) to each other in elevators during the fighting at Madrid University.
Rupert_2
I was worried that this topic might fall off the first page of the forum. No worry of that so far.
Hans
the only color picture I can find of the T-26 A captured T26 in Nationalist colors I believe http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/spain/Spa-T26-color.jpg

MikeT
Now a Spanish Civil war addon would be perfect for a CMMOS mod. IF anyone knows a gamer interested in working on the Spanish speech files, and others are willing to get the uniforms and vehicles. It would not be overly difficult to do this. Using CMMOS would make the mod easier to deal with since you won't be adding and taking off mods piecemeal. The program would do the work. Hans
Contact this gentlemen jmcagi@terra.es and whose website is http://www.chema-cagi.com/ I believe he would know how to find these people. There is also Fernando at the company itself. Yes a Cmmos would be a good idea
Hans
Yes Engel It should be as you stated, I misplaced my 'r' and 's'! It is correct, I cannot spell in neither Spanish, English, Japanese or Arabic : ]
Lou2000
I like this idea ... looking forward to seeing how it develops. Its an area that doesnt get much attention =============================================== Another often overlooked area of the war I've been thinking about for a mod is a Manchuria campaign Mod .... Russia Vs Japan in '45. The whole thing only lasted for a few weeks but would be interesting and fairly easy to do ... all majority of Russian forces involved were shipped straight from Eastern Europe so wouldnt need to be modded. The most of the Japanese tanks were only light and could probably be represented by some of the lighter Axis units ... Including hungarian stuff. Other than that some uniform mods would be the main thing ... of course the voice/sound files would be a bit difficult !
MikeT
Lou, I had considered a Japanese_Russian mod but in 1939! The poor Japanese tanks in the late war just don't stand a chance against the Russian armor. The only problem is speech files. I have the files from my CMBO Pacific mod but CMBB has nearly twice the number of speech files. MikeT
El Cid_Cagi
(otherwise known as Chema-Cagi) Reporting. Sounds like a helluva good idea. I will launch a massive call to arms in the spanish forums. As for the speech files, I think it could be done if someone tells how to...we can have some fun time recording all that shouting First contribution could be a new 00005010 .wav file (the splash screen background music): either the precious "Ay! Carmela" or the "Cara al Sol" fascist hymn There are some spanish modders out there, other than Fernando Carrera, and I guess they could be interested. As Wayne/Hans has said, there was a great and colourful mix of uniforms. They could look great.
MikeT
Speech files are really simple. You would use Windows sound recorder and a microphone. Now you need to practice to get the sounds right, distance from mike and such. But you save the speech file in the same format as the speech files in the game. There is a hertz, frequence, and such that must match. I would prefer that the speech files be saved using the english name of what is being said. For instance if you make a file and it is Spanish for "Get off your ass and right" then save it as "get off your ass and fight.wav" Simple enough. I still need to know what speech files are being use from what minor axis ally. I know the russian numbers but not say the Hungarians or Romanians. I can supply you a list of phrases, I have that somewhere on my PC. You can contact me at desertcmt@attbi.com Now in some cases get dramatic, remember you are soldiers fighting for you lives. Uniforms...AndrewTF maybe JorgeMC...Andrew'w wive is going to have a baby soon. JorgeMC might be intersted. Some vehicles, here is an open call for vehcile mods. The more the better, in fact I wouldn't mind seeing the same vehicle done differently and giving gamers the option of which they want. Now others will need to draw up a list of what mods to do, no Tigers in Spanish colors.. I would think the list would be T26, trucks, PzKwI, PzKwIIs,BTs, what else. Maybe Juju could be asked to do some weapons, Mausers and Nagants of course, but I have no idea as to what MGs and pistols would be used. Terrain....please tell me what changes wold be required. Should it be drier, no grass for instance, add cactus maybe?? Different trees?? I have no idea what Spain looks like. Buildings, how should they change? Hans
Some more equipment/troop types to consider for modding CV3/33 plus the flame version (probably use a German Halftrack for that Renault FT 17 Schneider CA1 tank BA 6 Chevrolet AC UNL AC Lancia IZM AC Bilbao AC FAI AC Various armoured (homemade) lorries (19, yes 19 different kinds) Schneider armoued bus Oruga 1 & 2 Host of gun types from 65mm howitzers to 155mm Uniform wise Carlist militia Carlist cavalry Falangist militia Foreign legion Galicians Condor legion troops Italian blackshirts Italian regulars Italian CTV "volunteers" Moroccan regulares Moroccan tiradores (Arabic sound files!) Madrilenos militias Anarchist militia Communist 5th regiment International brigades Basque militia plus Asaltos Guardia Civil Carabineros assorted riff raff Finally the Spanish Civil War was one of the last where unit used destinctive flags (banderas)
MikeT
Remember we can only use vehicles that are in CMBB. About the flags, this could prove interesting. With CMMOS I can have unit flags available for either victory locations and in the interface. I would just need to know what flag goes with what unit. Any chance anyone might have some hard data here? All that is needed are the bmps and what unit they belong. MikeT
Rupert_2
Just to keep this on top. BUMP!!
El Cid_Cagi
I guess it may have been asked before (for russian partisans, for example) but... is it possible to make female infantry models? Anarchist and communist militia had many women in their ranks. This would add not only colour but some volume to the uniform mods About the speech recording: any tips about where and how to make the recordings? The italian speech files in CMBB, for example, sound very artificial, something like the man speaking from behind a closed door It could be made even separated voice sets for the nationalists and the republicans, especially regarding encouraging voices. The republicans would say "camaradas!" or "compañeros!" where the nationalist would say "legionarios!" or "soldados!", for example; since it's a mod regarding a civil war, some political mottos could be appropriate too
MikeT
Problem with female faces is that most faces are shared between the axis and allies. That will give Germans female faces as well. On speech files, Windows sound recorder and a microphone is all you need. Of course some practice will help you make good sounding speech files. The files must be saved in a specific properity. I just checked a speech file in CMBB, the format is PCM 44,100 Hz, 16 bit, mono. To work in CMBB the new speech files MUST be the same. The new speech files can be anything you like. IT is possible to have different files for the two sides, it is also possible to have some English files, German, Italian, etc. We can mix this up. imported_Wildman
Here is an all spanish website that has done a lot of modification work for Falcon 4.0 http://www.escuadron111.com/ Given their track record with modding Falcon 4.0 they might be willing and technologically capable of helping this project. They would probably need a list of wav file name/words to be spoken Worth a shot, these are a great bunch of guys. You should see the campaign they put together for Falcon 4.0 IMPRESSIVE (called Red Hot)
Engel
When recording the sound files, it might be useful to record them inside a clothes closet or other such place where you have sound absorbing materials around. Especially modern apartments tend to generate lots of echo that makes the sound seem artificial, and that doesn't include the background noise of the computer fan, traffic, etc. (a tip I got from a low-budget musician friend of mine long time ago).
