Der Kuenstler
I was area firing at a german symbol where an AT gun is located. The symbol has disappeared. Does that mean I knocked it out?
Ted
I believe after a certain period of time without seeing the actual unit the symbol will disappear. 3-4 minutes maybe? So I’d say no you may not have knocked it out. But if it’s not firing back at you and there are targets to shoot at it certainly is possible. Are you playing the AI or a human opponent?
Der Kuenstler
Human. A shell exploded right where the symbol was and then it disappeared.
MadGav
I believe this does mean you knocked the gun out. It's a bug which it is very easy to take gamey advantage of...
Wicky
The trick to finding if you knocked out something is to select the icon and if the terrain type is shown it's alive, if it's blank, you'll find it's dead.
Brent Pollock
Wicky sites the best way. Another is if an "Infantry?" or "Crew?" icon pops up in the same spot as soon as the gun disappears.

86smopuim
If the symbol disappears, it doesn't necesarily mean it's dead. I could mean that you can see that it's no longer where the symbol was. If in trees, most often though, it means its dead.
