Official (Revised) Strategy Guide Errata Thread

Recommended Posts

OK, I'll get it started:

On page 1/68 the unit data for the Luftwaffe Mech Panzer Grenadier 44 Escort squad has a formatting error. They don't carry an MP40 SMG, all the data to the right of that should be shifted left one column. Small error to be sure....

I assume that we'll ignore simple typos and punctuation errors--of which, alas, there are still many. What matters is the data and the accuracy of the advice.

On pages 1/19 and 1/20, we're told that the lightning bolt represents a command bonus and the star represents a combat bonus. Those should of course be reversed.

Page 1/14 Rest

"What is important to remember is that it takes quite a while for EXHAUSTED units to catch thier breath, but it obly takes a short while for troops to go from READY to RESTED."

Probably should be TIRED or TIRING.

Whilst I agree that this thread serves the sincere effort by readers to indicate errors in the revised book, I for one - and I'm speaking only for myself here gentlemen - are almost too embarressed to highlight mistakes I would pick up in the 2nd revised edition. That is, when I receive my free, gratis copy in due time.

Why? Call me a thankful customer, receiving great service/value for my money. Mistakes noted in the 2nd edition: I'll make my notes based on this helpful thread and write it down. Any picked up by this reader will be gleefully marked with the following note in the book's sideline:

"See, a small imperfection! Nobody is perfect... :D

Bless you BFC for outstanding service!

Sincerely,

Charl Theron

I agree with WineCape-I dont give a rats buttocks if I find 100 mistakes-I got my (free-revised-no cost-express shipping) copy 2 days after it was announced as released and I am happy as hell :D Did I mention that this copy I got two days after it was released was free-revised-no cost-express shipping ;) Can anyone give me an example when they received a free-revised-no cost-express shipped replacement for something they bought from another company-DOUBT IT  Nuff said

After BFC's stupendous gesture, anyone who feels the need to nit-pick and complain about largely insignificant errors are nothing more then moaning ungrateful B******S!!!

and hey if it is an error considered a little more then insignificant then get a bottle of Correction Fluid and fix it yourself..for the love of God!!! What it must be to live a perfect error free life like you guys must do

P.S. I consider myself to have the patience of a Saint but lack of gratitude and non-recognition of effort really makes me show my teeth

But if errors pointed out in the first edition weren't corrected in the second, where exactly is the effort that should be recognized?

Oh poop, you guys are no fun. I have had 3rd edition text books I paid $100 for with loose leaf errata sheets inside the front cover. I don't expect perfection from these guys either, but if there are corrections still to be made they should be recorded somewhere, right?

And I don't think BFC decided to give free copies of the second edition out of the pure goodness of their hearts but because they were embarassed, and rightly so. I know I would be. I think the second effort is completely acceptable ... there are just a few remaining bugs to be hunted down.

I agree with Dorosh. You paid for the first edition. The free corrected version should be corrected. Now typos are no big deal, but incorrcet infromation is just inexcuseable since the whole purpose of a revision is to correct that. I agree that BFC is providing great customer sevice by giving replacement copies, but an incomplete or flawed product is still just that. I don't know about you guys, but when I buy something, it better be a quality product or my bucks go elsewhere.

Well if you're going to be shelling out $23.00 US & this is the second edition ( revised ) then there shouldn't be typos, errors, etc. I can understand ( maybe ) with the 1st edition there being mistakes in it but the 2nd edition should've been proofread more carefully before it was put out for sale.

Time for a joke....

Boss: I studied your technical recommendation and decided it's impossible.

Dilbert: I already did it.

Boss: It will never work.

Dilbert: It's working perfectly.

Boss: You spelled this word wrong.

Dilbert: That's a number.

I totally enjoy this game and all the efforts required to put out a manual that covers such a large scope; that said, as a publication designer, if i were in charge of such a printed manual I would never let the thing go to press with as many spelling errors as this one has... as a matter of fact, i wouldn't let ANY spelling errors go to press. As a professional, I would make every effort to make the manual grammatically perfect. Failure to do so, in my industry, might cost me my job (depending on the type of piece being typeset).

With all the game data involved, it might very well be impossible to achieve perfection on a contextual front; but when it comes to spelling, there should be no problems achieving this. It's kind of like bowling 11 straight strikes then intentionally throwing a gutterball... it just slightly smacks of unprofessionalism.

Please don't misread my comments as being disparaging or ungrateful; i don't know what i'd do without this game. I just wish I knew Battlefront needed a spell-checker, i would have gladly offered my services.

{btw, don't bother counting my own grammatical errors; i'm on my lunch break.}

That's what this thread is for. If someone identifies errors in the tables, I plan to pencil them into my copy. There's no cause to take offense at people wanting to make sure their useful tables are actually useful.

As for the spelling and grammatical errors, well, they are unfortunate and give an impression of laxity. BTS is the finest wargame publisher I've ever known, but perhaps they should farm out their printed matter to a professional editor. In a world of falling standards, should we just accept weak writing without complaint?

But I'm an English teacher. What do I know?

I'm not in the publishing business, nor am I as good a speller as most peeple (sic) smile.gif so the few minor typos don't bother me a bit. Already corrected the lightning bolt/star thing with... a pen.

I've read the guide cover to cover once so far and found it to be worth every penny. There are many insightful tips and new tactical ideas for me to try.

I haven't scanned the charts looking for mistakes and won't. They will come in handy when playing a game if I run across a weapons system never encountered before in my limited experience. The charts will give me an idea what I'm up against. If the numbers are a bit off, no big deal. If they're way off then I'll chalk it up to my troops seeing a Tiger when it was really a PzII.

Bottom line for me is that the guide is well worth it and I applaud Battlefront for making good on the mistakes with the first edition.

PERFECT!

My feelings exactly

except I have not got my new copy yet so I have not read the 2nd edition cover to cover but I will read it when I get it.

Mostly I must say....

Thanks for the FREE SHIPPING and FREE 2nd Edition copy.!!!

I totally agree with Joker. Not trying to cause a fuss or anything, just can't understand how simple typos could make it into a 2ND Addition. I placed my order in January, and just recieved it last week. It seems like 5 months would be plenty of time to correct any misspelled words.

On another note, to be honest, I haven't found the manual that helpful. Even all the charts do not have all the info you need, for example, blast strength.

Anyhow, as someone said earlier, we as CM fans are extremely nit-picky in our gaming. Historical accuracy is of the highest priority b/c we all love the realism involved. So, as fans of this type, we might be a little harder to please than your average Joe who thinks Battlefield 1942 is an accurate depiction of WWII combat. ;)

HI Guys,

did not get 1st, but did get 2nd edition. I like it and look forward to fully reading it.

But, lets talk here -

My car is in shop. It is worked on. I pay bill. Drive it home but it is not fixed. Shop offers to fix it for free.

But it is not free, since I already paid for something that I did not receive fair value for. I am grateful for their attitude, but will be more grateful after it is fixed.

Second time around, they fix some of the problems, but not all. I did not have to pay more, but still have not recieved value for what I paid.

I will go to new repair shop next time.

(Now, don't worry, I will never leave the guys at BattleFront, but some of you are a little 'out there' with how great the 'free' 2nd edition is)
