KG_Jag
In the last couple of days a few of us have had problems trying to send saved game files. Outlook Express had removed the attachments, with the following explanation: "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: filename.cme" I even tried sending a file by changing cme to cm1--still the same result, removal of access to the file. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
Amedeo
Select options/protection under the menu "tools" in OE and uncheck the box relative to disallowing opening or saving of potentially dangerous files. Be warned that this lessens your overall secutity, but if you have an antivirus system on your PC... bye
stikkypixie
Have you tried to zipping the .cme file?
BigDork
I just had a big fight with Outlook '03 because they were blocking something I needed. I did some looking into it and I don't think I can unblock it either. Ah well, it was work related so it isn't too big of a loss.
KG_Jag
Thanks guys--zipping works, but I don't have a zip utility on my laptop. Amedeo's suggestion seems to work. I have Outlook on my desktop; so I'll have to see if there is a similar problem with it.
Bone_Vulture
I've had Hotmail warn me of a virus in a PBEM turn file several times. It might be that the raw text format these files are in sometimes trigger the heuristic scan of e-mail applets.
GJK
Switch to Pbem Helper (sorry, don't have the link handy since I'm up at work - working - very hard in fact). Pbem Helper will zip/unzip, archive turns, start turns automatically (if you opt) and all kinds of other neat stuff. Bit of a trick to get it set up and going initially, but once you have it going you'll be amazed at the functions it performs. The miracles of Google found that link: HERE
Vossiewulf
I uset Outlook 2000, and have had no problems with it complaining about scenario or saved-game files. I much prefer it to Outlook Express, too.
Bartokomus
Outlook XP and 2003 are designed to be fully integrated with Exchange. The Exchange servers sets your permissions for your mail, so MS has left a lot of the functionality of Outlook dormant on purpose for the standalone user. In this instance the Exchange Admin would set the type and size of attachments you'd be allowed to send/receive. You can hack this (hack might be too romantic of a term); the link below gives a very nice step by step. But do remember as someone else said that this reduces your security substantially, as this requires you (or whoever you share your PC with) to always be alert about the mail they receive. Hope this helps: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm
