I must have been using a different version of CMBB. I can remember getting a 300mm naval spotter(sept 1942) and the delay time was 2 min. Now it's 30 min. What's up? I'm I missing or overlooking something? Can delay times be changed?

Not being one to mess with the big guns (too expensive), I haven't really noticed before. But it you mean the Sov 305mm (and I think you do), the time delay does run from about 23 - 37 minutes.

This is only an educated guess, but I'd suspect it's because super-heavy arty like this is (was) mostly used for prep-fire and fire plan bombardments, i.e: Not usually on-call for battalion-level commanders. It would be in short supply along the front, and yr last-minute call up would go on a waiting list until they finished with whatever else they were pummeling.

Oh, and considering there were only something like 36x 305mm howitzers in existence, you'd be lucky to see them in action at all, outside of siege work.

So, if you insist on wasting points on it, use it immediately, during turn 1, or not at all.

Notice that you don't have to fire it on turn 1, just target it then. Then if you wish, you can add a delay. I don't think I'd use much of a delay myself though, as I don't think I'd want my troops within 1km when the shells start falling.

Thank you von Lucke and Mike. In the scenario I'm designing the 305mm represents naval bombardment. In the battle naval bombardment by the Black Sea Fleet was a factor. Okay, I will have to live with the delay.

Oh, you should have said that in the first place!

Yr talking about the Parizhskaya Kommuna / Sevastopol (12x 305mm / 16x 120mm)? Yeah, she did a lot of work around the beaches of Feodosiya and Sudak, and the Crimea in general. But if yr looking for shore bombardment, it would most likely be Cruisers or Destroyers, so try 180/152/130mm for CR's, or 102/76mm for DD's, respectively.

Since you got me going:

the Krasnyj Krym was a WWI-era Lt. Cruiser, mounting 15x 130mm / 4x 100mm / 4x 76mm.

The Charkov was a fairly modern (commissioned 1938) Destroyer Leader, mounting 5x 130mm / 2x 76mm.
