Turnberry
Does anyone know what an MG 45 (or MG 42 V) looked like?

JasonC
Um no, that is a plain MG 42. He is asking about a rare late war prototype, only 10 built and never fielded. I've found some pics which I will post shortly.
JasonC
Here are two pics of the MG 45 - It was only 9 kg, lighter than the standard MG 42, with an even higher cyclic ROF.
BCGOVT
Just curious, I've Never heard of this weapon. Any Idea of the rate of Fire? Similar to the MG3? MG3 fires 1200 RPM +/-. This was an Experimental MG?? Thanks for any Info-JHW (BCGOVT)
JasonC
More like 1500 rpm I think. It was meant to be less demanding to produce, using lower quality material and less of it, with lower overall weight a side benefit. But they never worked out the bugs. There was a prototype as early as 1944. Only 10 were ever made; it never entered real production. Several of them were captured by the Russians, and were the source of those pics. Some features from it may have descended to various other post war MGs, though which is something MG grogs dispute regularly and seems confused (I'm not an expert on that subject).
BCGOVT
Jason C-Thanks much. Anyone with further Info? I have fired the MG 42, and the MG 3 both, as well as the current and past Canadian/NATO squad SAW's and GPMG's. Minimi is a lovely weapon, and although this has no CMBB/CM signifigance per se, I'd personally like to see any further Info on this weapon. Anyone have the actual weapon designation-MG 42 (V) (V as in fifth model?) Thanks to all-JHW (BCGOVT)
