JohnCalvin
I've searched the forums and internet. I am beginning a campaign for an infantry company. I would like to name the company accurately (historically). I can get as far as this.. Army Group South 6th Army 44th Army Korps 297 Infantry Division I need to get to the company level. The links from this site did not work.
Michael Dorosh
www.feldgrau.com has info and references for 297 Infanterie Division http://www.feldgrau.com/InfDiv.php?ID=202 No OOB but the KC winners are from Infantry Regiment 524 (renamed Gren Regiment probably late 42) Infantry Regiment 523 Infantry Regiment 522 Each regiment probably had 3 battalions. JasonC
So it would be 1 (or 2, or 3) kompanie, I/522 or 5 (or 6, or 7) kompanie, II/522, etc. In each regiment, 1-3 companies were the line infantry companies of the first battalion. 4 was the heavy weapons company of the first battalion. 5-8 were the second battalion, 9-12 the third. There were additional companies for infantry guns and anti-tank, but those wouldn't come into your "path" designation.
