Hollow Charge Oddities

Recommended Posts

For the 37mm the HC round looked like a Panzerfaust and was loaded like a huge rifle grenade. I don't have the exact specs (anyone?) but it made the gun look like a giant Q-tip. It was effective if it hit something but wasn't very acurate except at close range.

The 0 penetration is probably because the target isn't fully identified. The computer is just giving you a heads up on what you might be facing.

The PAK 36 ceased production in 1942, however there were such large quantities of this gun produced (over 5300)that large numbers were kept in service and to give them a better anti tank performance the "Steilgranate41" or stick bomb was introduced. it was a hollow charge bomb, weighing 19lbs mounted on a stick, with a perforated tail boom carrying fins. the stick was loded into the muzzle so that the tail boom and the fins surrounded the gun barrel. A special blank cartridge was then loaded and used to fire the stick bomb to a max range of 800m. Due to it's low velocity, normal engagement range was 300m with a penetration of 180mm.

They were certainly used in France '44 were the close country would have favoured the short engagement range, so yes you did see it in band of Brothers.
