Guest Charles
First, let me say I really like the new translucent smoke graphics. Much improved over the demo version. The thick oily smoke from a brewed up tank contrasts nicely with the puffy cotton ball smoke used for concealment. The screenshots at CMHQ convey the effect nicely. I am generally a very cautious buyer of new computer software. Therefore, even though I was VERY impressed by the demo, I was still planning on waiting until the gold demo was released before I made my final decision to purchase the game. However, after following this board and visiting CMHQ for over 4 months, I am about to make an exception to this policy and go ahead and preorder the game! The attention to detail and historical accuracy, as well as the dedication of Steve and Charles at BTS to CM are truly refreshing in todays world of rushed out the door computer software products. Pulling a rabbit out of the hat regarding the new smoke graphics put it over the top for me. Okay, gush mode off, and time for two (relatively) minor quibbles. With the new and improved smoke graphics, I was wondering if there were any plans at this late date to make the flame graphics translucent as well. (I can easily live with a patch here as we are all impatiently waiting for the game to be released). Second, while looking at the screenshot at CMHQ of the burning house, something struck me as funny. At first, I couldn't figure it out. Then, I realized what was wrong. The flames come out of the base of the building! Instead of a burning house, it looked like a pot of stew on a gas stove! My question and request is, is there any was of making the flames come out of the highest story of the building instead of the bottom? All real-life house fires that I have seen have flames shooting out of the side and top of a house, not the bottom. This is a VERY minor quibble, as I think the rest of the game looks great. It may also not be possible to do because of coding limitations. However, I think it would be very cool and much more realistic if BTS could make this change. If you guys can do this, I will be convinced that you are truly GODS! (Many are already convinced that this is true, but I am a skeptic at heart). ------------------ Not THE Charles from BTS [This message has been edited by Charles (edited 02-21-2000).]

Fires can look like in CM, with only the ground floor burning. But this only happens early on when the fire starts down there. Pretty soon, rising heat ignites the higher parts of the building as well. This takes only a few minutes, generally just less time than it takes for the firemen to arrive on scene Thus, pretty soon the fire is coming through the roof and out the upper floor windows. So Charles is right, it does look kinda funny Maybe tweak that some in a patch? -Bullethead A volunteer fireman who hasn't lost a good set of concrete steps yet
Mostro
No doubt: fires are ugly in CM The only other things that, I think, must be improved are: - why killed units dissapear with no signals - why can't I see an Order of Battle, structured or not, list
Scott C
Mostro, your other two points have been discussed ad infinitum ad nauseum. Do a search on "OOB screen" or "dead bodies" and you'll find out why BTS has decided to do things this way. As for the fire, I agree it could be improved - but it is not vital, while getting the game in our hands ASAP IS! ------------------ Questions, comments, arguments, refutations, criticisms, and/or sea stories? Guest Charles
Improved fire is on my "wish" list, not on my "MUST have or I will curse and shout list." I, too want the game to be shipped as soon as possible, i.e. as soon as BTS deems it is ready to go. ------------------ Not THE Charles from BTS
