Hi Guys,

I have several pbems on the go right now and i have noticed that each player seems to have a different method of naming the files and i get confused sometimes.

So in the PBEM folder i opened some new sub-folders for each opponent so i could manage my files easier. But although i can save the incoming e-mail files where i want the game defaults to the pbem folder each time i save my own move.

In the finished game will we be able to choose the savegame directory and folder when we have finished our move?

Also does anyone have any tips on how to name the pbem files in a logical order?

Cheers

I just number them in the order of files. Let's say we two start a PBEM. I would call my set-up file GBvsCDIC0, than you would call yours GBvsCDIC1, the next one from me would be GBvsCDIC2 etc.pp. That way you don't get in any trouble with ordering them, and you always send the right file. Picked it up from Berli, and it really helps me keep track.

Hi GB,

Thanks for your reply - Are there any others out there with a different system of naming pbem files?

And can anyone tell me if we can select the save game directory in the full version of the game?

PS. GB, your pbem file format has a nice ring to it - GBvsCDIC, I am as yet undefeated in CM, either against other opponents (Although some in progress are getting mighty close)or the AI, would you care to dance?

Hey,

It is so stimulating to reply to your own posts eh?

Whilst on the subject of saving pbem files i noticed that some e-mails come in with an attachment - duly named and easy to save, whilst others come in with a page of gobbledygook - To save it i have to right click and select "Save message" It then names the file by default "Untitled" So i then lose any name my opponent attached to the file!!!!

I tried copy and paste, i can copy the text but when i open my pbem folder and right click the "Paste" function is greyed out!

I am using Netscape communicator 4.7

Can´t you change the filename when you attempt to save the file?

If you copy the text you have to paste it into a Notepad or Wordpad document. You can´t paste text straight into a folder. Open Notepad or Wordpad and paste into new document. If you use Wordpad you have to save as .txt.

Hi Kurtz,

Yes you can change the file name when you save from within the game, but if the pbem arrives as an inline text message there is no filename (it defaults to "Untitled") so you do not know which name your opponent allocated to the file.

Also you cannot select a target directory when you save after your move, when playing pbem and your move is finished the save file box appears - you can change the name but not the target directory.

Thanks for the tip on copy / Paste.

Cheers
