Private Pike
Having just won a PBEM using these German troops I was wondering what they were as I have never heard of them before. Are they from particular formations (eg: PZ Gren /Pz Divisions?) or are they ad hoc formations organised for particular assaults. And finally how common were they? (Thanks for any advice, and yes I did a search)
Keith
I believe they were independent battalions organized for assault purposes. I remember reading about such a battalion assaulting the American Airborne troops in Ste. Mere Eglise during the Normandy campaign.
Keith
And no they were not Ad Hoc. As far as rarity is concerned, I suspect they were not too common considering the shortage of the number of assault rifles available. They should be considered specialist. I imagine the organization was developed as a response to the street fighting in Stalingrad.
Private Pike
Thanks for the info, so I shouldn't use them to often in QBs. They are damn effective though.
Guest Mr. Johnson-<THC>-
ya, they rock. But after you taken mass causilties they lose some combat effectiveness. But they can take any hill you tell them too. Helps if they have some cannon fodder around to draw fire. Then they are twice as combat worthy.
