Ok, ok, I know I may be beating a dead horse here guys, but any word on when I have to talk the wife into letting me get this game?{***notice novel approach I have taken...Rommel eat your heart out***} I am almost excited to be able to make some big tank battles with the editor, and I am getting impatient smile.gif

Now I am kind of new to Combat Mission(Member since Nov 1999)and I have played many wargames such as Panzer General, SP1,2,&3, TOAW, East Front and West Front, BCT, Smolesk 41(but only a few times) and a few more I cannot remember offhand, but I was wondering what was the game that turned all of you towards the "make your wife a widow because you never get off the computer disease (her words I swear smile.gif)?"

Now I know you will laugh, but Panzer General was the one that did it for me. I have not played a game that has taken so much of my free time as PG did(except for Rogue Spear)I still have it in my massive cd case with almost 500 games, and I used to keep it on the Hard Drive just for sentimental purposes only. I mean I only bought a computer to play that and Fleet Defender and F-117. $5000 was a lot for really 3 games at the time, and I have watched the computer industry take off since.

It is too bad IMHO that more companies are not making better games with all of the new technical advancements. I mean a lot of the have great graphics, and some great foundations to work with, but I cannot remember a game that was finished upon release except for maybe Diablo.

I think that these companies are not only cheating the consumers, but also themselves. I mean when I was in the military, if I missed a bullseye, I would re-live it in my mind for quite a while afterwards, but I just wonder why these programmers wouldnt take more pride in a game that they worked on. I want to thank BTS for trying to complete this game before shipping, but can you please hurry up so we can stop asking for the release date? smile.gifsmile.gif

You can do that right now. CM won't be available in stores but only direct order, which you can do today.

The original version of PIRATES! Nothing better than putting squids to the sword, cities to the torch, and your liver to rum biggrin.gif

Valentine's Day is coming along and might a good time to do the sweet-talking?

I dare anyone to get their significant-other a copy of CM for V-Day.

Kampfgruppe! Though it seems very quaint by todays standards, it rocked at the time. I had never seen a game with as much depth at that point. I played that one for years! Then, in other genres, there was Civ and yes, Pirates! Those were landmarks too.

I wasn't aware CM is only going to be availible via direct order, hey BTS, you might want to remind us newbies that that's the case. I've been reading posts here since November myself and that's the first I have heard of it. I'm sure it's blazened all over the site somewhere, but as I only bee-line to this discussion group, I haven't heard it before. Zamo

LOL, don't go there man. With my luck, my wife will find out the url to this forum and find out what I've been up to.

BTW..why is it almost completely a "Male thing" to play these games? Why do all the females rob themselves of this stuff?

Don't question this divine providence, just count your blessings. Kipling said it best, in "The Female of the Species":

quote:
...When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,

He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.

But his mate makes no such motion when she camps beside the trail

For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

...Unprovoked and awful charges--even so the she-bear fights,

Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons--even so the cobra bites,

Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw

And the victim writhes in anguish--like the Jesuit and the squaw!

So it comes that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer

With is fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her

Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands

To some God of Abstract Justice--which no woman understands...

Because playing war in real life is almost completely a 'Male Thing'. At least in the US, and, I gather, most the rest of the world as well. It might be interesting to see if Israeli women are interested in wargames....

Dear Captain Foobar !

You asked: "Why do all the females rob themselves of this stuff ?"

I assume they are scared away by reading statements like
quote:
I REALLY hate to mention this but NOWHERE did Madmatt say that the "multiple penetrations" were all frontal !

Maybe we should switch to LATIN for subjects like this ?!

Actually, the women I met that were in the Belgium Army (they have quite a lot of women in there... must be good for the morale?) are usually the first to mention... uhm... things far far far worse than that. Actually, when I think about it, I am going to stop right here. Have a nice day cool.gif
