Guest PeterNZ
ok we've all talked about CM 1 though 4, and some have lamented a lack of a '5' or Pacific version. Well here's an idea that would make a pacific version a part-reality and also make cm4 the be-all-and-end-all of ww2 gaming. Once 4 is out and done, why doesn't BTS make "The Complete WW2" addon. You know, make all the units from 1, 2, 3, compatible with 4, and also through in a bunch of pacific units as well. With the addon you could import units from all of the previous games into CM4 Then we'd have CM 4 and THE ENTIRE WAR at our disposal. It would be a lot of work to update models and graphics i guess, but less work than a new engine anyway! and with basic modeling done in the previous versions, it wouldn't be tooooo difficult to update those older models and put them in CM4 i imagine, (I imagine a lot ) Thoughts? Guest gyrene251
Nice idea...the big stumbling block would be the coding and programming. NOt to mention the time needed to research and produce the graphics needed for the Pacific theater units. I would love to see the Pacific Theater done up for CM. Whether we see any after CM2 will depend on how well sales go on the first 2 versions...here's hoping!
Guest Ol' Blood & Guts
I, for one, hope that there isn't a great deal of difference between the CM versions, engine wise or graphics. Except for minor graphic tweaks to say like the trees or whatever. Because I'd like to go back and play earlier versions and not say, "Boy, CM2 is so...yesterday." You know what I mean? But another way to keep everything up to date would be to release engine and graphics update-patches down the line to keep CM1 and 2 up to date with 3 & 4. But the main objective would have to be to keep every version's code somewhat compatible with the next version so you COULD go back and update the previous versions without much trouble. In other words, don't make drastic changes in the game engine from version to version. Because as the saying goes, "If it ain't broke....don't fix it." --------------------------------------------- The idea of modeling Pacific units in CM4 and importing earlier units would be a cool idea. Actually the way this needs to be done is as I have stated above, just keep the earlier versions up to date to where you can actually install the new versions into the same game system and therefore just combine them as you go. That is MY big idea. ------------------ "Why don't we say that we took this one chance, and fought!" "Stupid humans.
