John Kettler
A while back, while playing Last Defense as the Germans, I managed to get a squad into the building occupied by the .50 cal. and onto its upper floor location. The American MG was under multiple MG fires through its window position, yet somehow managed to turn itself completely around and demolish an entire squad of SS Panzergrenadiers. I fully expected the SS troops to rip that .50 cal team to pieces at point blank range (grenades, SMGs, etc.), yet the opposite happened. I'd love to see an explanation for how this feat was accomplished. John Kettler

Guest Germanboy
Actually, as my valued PBEM opponent could tell you, the same thing happened to his SS troopers. When he made a dash for the buildings with his mounted infantry, the .50 shot up one HT after deembarkation. The squad stormed into the church, onto the first floor, and slugged it out on a distance of six metres with the .50 - result was 8 SS men writhing in pain or dead, no casualties with the .50. He had to send in a second squad and that seems to have a better effect. Not that it will help him though, since my reinforcements will wipe the floor with him now I would be interested in an explanation, if there is one. I had kissed them goodbye when the SS squad appeared. ------------------ Andreas
Guest Big Time Software
Wow! That is the really cool thing about CM. There is enough "fuzziness" in the combat model to allow really incredible, but not unrealistic, stuff to happen. We have, however, changed some of the close combat stuff since the demo so this will most likely happen much less in the final, but still... 6 men defending in a house have a pretty decent chance of holding out for a while. Fionn
I'm with Major Tom here.. That 0.5 cal just got lucky as hell. Normally MG teams are dead the instant you get within a few metres of them. Bad luck John.
