AP HEAD
Help! Ive been trying to use assault boats to form a pontoon bridge. Ive had no success as the CM engine wont allow infantry to go form an embarked position to another embarked place. ( I think thats it) Some may say why bother, but historically these types of bridges were used. In 1945 Germany was flooded to prevent the allies access cross the Rhineland. The US crossed both the Roer and the Rhine in assault boats some lashed together to form bridges. Maybe a slight engine tune could make this a possibility? yours AP HEAD
Olle Petersson
You've got a point there. If it's for a designed scenario I'd suggest you use a wodden bridge instead. Cheers Olle

It is a bit more complicated than just lashing together the boats. Which means it takes time, engineers and equipment and is more likely than not outside CM's scope. Unfortunately this whole issue is badly represented in CM, because we also lack the Buffaloes that were used by the Commonwealth armies for the assault crossings of the Rhine, the clearing of the Scheldt Estuary and the assault on Walcheren. These were quite heavily armed (in Bovington they had one with a .30, a .50 and a 20mm cannon), lightly armoured and could carry either vehicles or up to a platoon, I believe. But all in all a minor gripe, IMO. ------------------ Andreas Der Kessel Home of „Die Sturmgruppe“; Scenario Design Group for Combat Mission. LuckyShot
In the scenario editor, using multiple fords across a river should give you an identical effect to a flimsy pontoon bridge (vehicles can't use them).

That would leave a thin strip of open ground between the river tiles and the marsh over which vehicles could probably pass. Fords are about it for now I guess. Oddball_E8
Actually Lucky shot will change the ford tile to a pontoon bridge tile (altho flimsy... hence no vehicle crossing) in the upcoming Urban Mod... come to think of it that is probarbly the only thing left to do before release... ------------------ Wof, wof, wof, wof... Thats my other dog imitation.
