Boy oh boy, combat is unforgiving.

I'm playing VoT, getting ready to assualt those hills and bunkers. I'm moving my infantry ahead cautiously (or so I thought).

We move through the first line of trees on the right and we're greeted by MG42 fire.

I've got one rifle platoon and my 105 spotter near the center, and since the opfor fire seems to be focused on my right, I sneak them towards the first of a series of hills that leads to the town, thinking that I could establish suppressing rifle and arty fire.

Of course, idiot that I am, I'm only thinking about the avenue of appraoch directly in front of me. Stupid. We get to the top of the hill and nothing happens. I then think, "OK, let's just scurry over the crest and down into those pines about ten meters ahead." As soon as we step onto the down slope a yellow

flash misses my virtual p.o.v. by inches and all hell breaks lose: a deafening roar, dirt flying through the air, the earth convulses, men scattering or falling on their faces. And, on the wooded ridge across the valley, a German arty peice(I never got close enough to classify it) spits out another round. The horror, the horror.

God I love this game! biggrin.gif

Me too, except for AOE II, which is just a class act. But all of my Igo-Ugo games (west Front, East Front II) are already off the hard drive-- and packed away in the back of my closet...
