PBEM Mac & PC

Recommended Posts

A (Mac'er) friend of mine is unable to utilize my .txt file.

This has probably been posted here countless times, but I am unable to find a solution nonetheless.

Can someone post a cure for this, please?

I have enabled email notification so I am able to check easier.

Thx!

Should work just fine. I use a mac, some (most?) of my opponents use PCs. Probably something got munged by the emailer. Forward me the file (without all the ">" in front of the lines, and I'll tell you if it works. My address is in my profile.

Just realized you're the file creator, so there won't be any ">" on front of the lines...

PCs have a serious problem with recognising file creator types from applications not made and supported by Microsoft even with the fairly straight forward MIME system. With my Mac, I usually encode UUEncode so everyone is equally unhappy, and when I have a PC or Mac that does not do a proper MIME attachment (which is lots of them) I use BBEdit to cut out the text from the e-mail and turn it into a stand alone text file.

I'd bet my Bob Semple that your friend decompressed the file using Stuffit Expander (the defacto app for that task on the Mac), and he had it set to convert PC text files to Mac files, in the process ruining the PBEM data.

Tell him to open Stuffit, head to Prefs, then PC Compatability, and set everything in there to "Never"
