109 Gustav Posted October 23, 2000 Posted October 23, 2000 I've found that when I give the AI a few troops, and embark them in Kubelwagens, the AI just lets the 'wagens sit there, leaving the troops inside. I don't blame it for not using the 'wagens, but it should at least disembark the troops if they're just going to sit there. Has anyone else had this problem? ------------------ Charon doesn't make change.
Hemo2 Posted October 23, 2000 Posted October 23, 2000 I had tried to make a scenario where both sides had some trucks, jeeps, kubelwagens and loaded troops into them. The idea being these troops would be transported to/close to the objective. I locked them into place so the AI (or human) couldn't move them elsewhere on setup. However, upon play testing the battle, the AI would always disembark 'some' of the trucks and others would stay embarked. Generally though, after a few turns, all the troops would disembark and begin the slow march to the objective on foot. Which of course made me wonder of what use these vehicles are when the AI is in control of them. With what little I've played with the scenario editor, I've not found a way to get the AI to actually 'transport' the embarked troops as I had planned. If there's a way, I'd be interested in trying it out.
109 Gustav Posted October 23, 2000 Author Posted October 23, 2000 I think it will transport units in halftracks. The kublewagens just sat there, wasting a mortar and company hq. ------------------ Charon doesn't make change.
Doug Beman Posted October 23, 2000 Posted October 23, 2000 Most probably the AI evaluates the battlefield and decides the KBs are too vulnerable to risk transporting troops in, so debarks the troops. If you leave the troops out, does the AI use the KBs for scouting, etc? Or do they still sit where they started the battle? DjB
109 Gustav Posted October 24, 2000 Author Posted October 24, 2000 No, the problem isn't that the AI doesn't move the 'wagens. The problem is that it won't disembark the units. I'll see if it moves them at all. ------------------ Charon doesn't make change.
Colin Posted October 24, 2000 Posted October 24, 2000 I had some Gun Tractors with various types of light arty embarked on them. They were at the end of the road (the main theme of the scenario being to find a good place to put this arty and then use it). When I let the AI use that side the just disembarked the guns and left them all in the middle of the road right where they had started. ------------------ And if we abandon any platform, I can assure you it will not be the Macintosh. -Steve My website!
Doug Beman Posted October 24, 2000 Posted October 24, 2000 Colin, you're not the first person to mention this. Apparently the instict for the gun tractors to get to safety overrides their mission, which is to get the guns to a useful location. The AI does seem to have problems correctly utilizing gun/mover combinations. I've yet to see a mover hitch up a gun and move it during a scenario, whereas I use it for shoot/scoot. DjB
