Aacooper Posted August 25, 2000 Posted August 25, 2000 Were Dragon's Teeth in the Siegfried Line continuous (in places that had them), or were there typically gaps where tanks could squeeze through? I imagine there were gaps on roads, but what about fields? I'm making a scenario, you see, and I'm wondering if I need to put gaps in the line of "rough" terrain. In this case, the American infantry got through the line without problems (it was foggy and the Germans were surprised), but the 11th Panzer Division's counterattack is more interesting from a scenario-creation standpoint.
Juardis Posted August 25, 2000 Posted August 25, 2000 Well, since the whole point of dragons teeth were to keep tanks from crossing, the answer is no, there is not enough room for tanks to squeeze through. The teeth were set in rows with each row offset such that the gap in one row was closed by the teeth in the next row. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
Aacooper Posted August 25, 2000 Author Posted August 25, 2000 Thank you juardis, let me rephrase my question In a line of Dragon's Teeth that is shown on a map as 1500m long, interrupted only by a road, would the Germans have left any other spots open?? Maybe they needed to let tractors through, or maybe they got lazy (never!)... Has anyone seen lines of Dragon's Teeth left standing?
Juardis Posted August 25, 2000 Posted August 25, 2000 don't know. All pics I've seen of the Maginot line show 4 or 5 rows of teeth with no gaps big enough to drive a tank through. However, it's your scenario, do what you want. I'm sure that a gap in the line would be just the perfect spot for an ambush ------------------ Jeff Abbott
