Super "target lock" bug??

Recommended Posts

I've just installed 1.04 And started a saved operation from the setup phase in battle six or so. I don't know if this is patch related, but here goes:

In the previous battle I had a very succesfull AT gun that even managed to survive several arty shellings. I was damn proud of the thing! Now, wherever I put the damn gun, in and even completely out of LOS of any enemy units (I've recreated this 5 times), AI arty seems to find it wherever it is, and halfway turn two it starts shelling the s**t out of that poor gun. There is no way the AI can know under which rock I'm hiding that thing! It is extremely frustrating. On top of that the AI also seems to know when it has actually knocked out the gun, since only then it will stop shelling...

anyone else notice this?

Don't think so. I don't think you can change FOW settings after starting an operation. Also AI units going out of my LOS display the usual marker.

The gun is now sadly eliminated. frown.gif Couldn't be helped. As usual, the rest of the AI's arty was dumped as smoke on a tank that was planning to leave anyway.

Juju.... AT guns are pretty easy to spot. Arty spotters are much harder to spot. So, just because you cant see them, doesnt mean that they cant see you... smile.gif

Hi Foobar!

No, I checked 6 times (by now), and in 4 of those tries I took great care to put the gun in a spot where it absolutely guaranteed could NOT see any other unit. nor could it ever have been seen by any other unit. It's a pity I don't have the save file anymore, damn! frown.gif I've considered what you said, but that was just the reason for me to try and hide it the way I did in the first place.

Thanks for trying, though. smile.gif

Well, now, let's not be too hasty there. I know your comparison was to FOs and it's hard to argue with you there. But somebody might read that and take it the wrong way. Compared to tanks and field guns for instance, AT guns were mostly pretty low-profile, easy-to-conceal weapons. Exceptions being the German 88 on the Flak pedestal or any Allied gun 75mm or larger.

Just curious...is the AI smart enough to shell an area where there MIGHT be a unit such as an AT gun that hasn't actually been spotted yet?

Woohoo! a blast from the past!

Found this little thingy, after almost a year, and still no answer. :D

So..., in all this time noone has seen this as well?

Ah, well. But it damn well was strange.

BTW, FOW was on. smile.gif

That wouldn't explain it anyway. Steve posted a while back that for the AI the FoW is always on full regardless of the setting for the player.

Juju - I've definitely seen another thread about this problem in the past six months. The symptoms were the same: at the beginning of a battle halfway through an operation, the AI would drop artillery on a unit (I believe in the other case it was an 88mm gun) which it couldn't possibly see. Looks like a game bug, possibly due to some visibility/targetting flag not being reset at the beginning of a battle?

Juju, why are you playing a game version 8 revisions behind the current?

Also it is not a good idea to upgrade from one version of the game to another in the middle of a battle or operation. Strange things can and will happen when you do that.

We normally recommend players finish out any ongoing games before applying patches.

I don't recall that as being true but I will check.

Hi Matt!

Um, maybe you should take a look at the date of the top post. Sorry for that. smile.gif
