How to explain this...

I set my mortars up in woods behind my weapons platoon HQ, with my Company HQ right behind the mortars.

The mortars were close enough to be in command of the weapon platoon's HQ but because my Company HQ was closer they drew command from the Company HQ. I tried to spot with the weapon platoon HQ and it would not work. When I moved the Company HQ away out of command range they drew command to thier weapon platoon HQ and could fire normally using the weapon platoon HQ's LOS.

Should it be this way? Is it something that is 'On the List?' I could forsee times when my support elements would 'bunched' with my Company HQ in the rear and you would really want LOS for indirect fire coming form other (all?) nearby HQs.

Did that make sence? frown.gif

Sorry to harp, but I think this might be a real bug...and it may have been 'missed' in the volume of traffic around here.

Hi Scott,

Yup, it was lost in the mad mass of postings smile.gif

This is how it was designed to work. Higher HQ always takes command over Team Weapons (in this case mortars), no matter what. The fact that in this case you happen to have a Platoon HQ for the Heavy Weapons teams means nothing the way the game is coded up. Reason is that a Platoon HQ is a Platoon HQ and a Team is a Team. To make an exception for the situation you found yourself in is about the only time this matters. We are not planning on changing this in the near future as it would be pretty involved code wise.

No problem. It is no big deal to work around as long as I know it is there.

So tell me Scott, did your mortars fire at the target designated by the Co. HQ? In other words, did you have multiple arty batteries raining down death on the target designated by your Co. HQ? If so, then in VOT, I could see where one target designation by the Co. HQ (for example, the concrete pill) would cause all offboard arty and all on board mortars to fire at that spot depending on the proximity of the Co. HQ to the other spotters/HQs. True? Or do spotters for offboard arty act independently of the HQs?

Spotters are independant and do not fall under the rules of Onboard Indirect Fire.

Whatever they see they can target regardless of wheter they are within a HQ's C&C...

Hi Scott,

Yeah, that is my feeling about it too. In theory it would be nice to have the Heavy Weapons Platoon HQ take priority, but since you will not often have the sort of situation you described, it isn't worth coding up. Like you say, so long as you KNOW that is going to happen you can (easily) avoid having a conflict between HQs.
