MCab
I've heard that the TOW-2b and the Javelin are top-attack ATGMs. Is this factored into the penetration value? If not, shouldn't there be a top armor value? Also, I read in the manual that the air strikes were generic for the reason that it wouldn't make a difference what showed up, that the effect would be the same. However, what about dedicated CAS fighters such as teh A-10 and the Su-25? Wouldn't they be able to perform more sorties and stay in the fight longer? I don't view it as a problem 'yet' in the game because the TOW and Javelin are already overkill weapons for most enemy vehicles in the game. Will probably change in the future. > Also, I read in the manual that the air strikes were generic > for the reason that it wouldn't make a difference what > showed up, that the effect would be the same. At present I only model low altitude, area target attacks with cluster bombs. I am not comfortable with the realism of using standoff 'plinking' type munitions in the kinds of scenarios that TacOps portrays. It is certainly something that I would like to eventually nail down. The main reason why A-10s have been left out of the game is that if they were in a typical TacOps scenario in significant numbers, there would really be no 'gaming' reason to play that scenario. Picture it ... start scenario ... spend fifteen minutes setting up US ground force ... OPFOR columns come on map ... squadron of A-10s with SEAD support shows up ... OPFOR columns are ravaged in five or six minutes ... game over. The same applies to either side being given overwhelming arty support and or unlimited arty ammo. ------------------ Best regards, Major H majorh1@aol.com
