Erwin Posted Friday at 10:49 PM Posted Friday at 10:49 PM Thanks to you feedback here I got my wife a new lightweight (3.5lb) 17" laptop for work and she is very happy with it. I figure I should take advantage of Black Friday to get a 17" gaming laptop for myself. I have a brute gaming laptop from XI Computers, but with the brick it is something like 10lb. Any suggestions for a 17" lightweight gaming laptop will be appreciated. 0 Quote

Before anyone weighs in with "you don't want to play *insert game* on a laptop", I have been playing every game I want to on 17 inch laptops for a few years now. The current one is an MSI Pulse 17 B13VFK, i7-13700H, RTX 4060 Laptop etc. I had a similar Asus one before it died a liquid-based death . Anyway if I needed a new one I would just find one a bit like the current one on Amazon (or wherever) as they are very capable machines. 0 Quote
Erwin Posted Friday at 11:47 PM Author Posted Friday at 11:47 PM Thank you... I have desktops and 30" monitor for playin. But, travel extensively and am literally tired of carrying around a heavy laptop and brick that must weigh around 10lb total.. Am hoping to get ideas for a 3lb-4lb 17" gaming laptop. 0 Quote
Redwolf Posted Saturday at 12:03 AM Posted Saturday at 12:03 AM 17" is becoming rare, and they are all self-defense laptop size. Get a random one with 16" and a 4070. I prefer AMD CPUs in laptops these days. 1 Quote

It's manageable (likes to sit on the back seat of the car), but I confess it has only traveled a few times... 0 Quote
Silentkilarz Posted Saturday at 03:14 AM Posted Saturday at 03:14 AM I just got one myself not too long ago. Went with a Lenovo Legion 7. 0 Quote
Erwin Posted Saturday at 04:12 AM Author Posted Saturday at 04:12 AM (edited) I see a lot of good reviews about Legion 7. But they are all 16" right? I have a 15.something and not sure I would see much difference with 16". I like my wife's 17", but of course that is not a gaming machine. However, maybe one doesn't need a super powerful laptop for CM and most non- RT games?? Edited Saturday at 04:14 AM by Erwin 0 Quote

Any x3d chip will annihilate everything else in gaming, it's not even close. https://xoticpc.com/products/asus-rog-strix-scar-17-g733pyv-xh97 Edited Saturday at 04:46 AM by Artkin 0 Quote
Erwin Posted Saturday at 02:52 PM Author Posted Saturday at 02:52 PM Looks good. Have folks reported any problems with AMD processors (vs Intel) and CM? Also, weights 6.6lbs. I probably don't need state of the art laptop as I can get that performance with my desktops. Need a balance and preferably closer to 4lbs weight for portability. 0 Quote

I just upgraded from a Zepheryus G14 so its a big leap for me lol. My Legion came with a 14900hs, the higher end 4070 gpu, 32gb of ram. Running Space Marine 2 on max settings im runnning 60fps (fps locked intentionally) and temps are 70-80c. Edited Saturday at 03:22 PM by Silentkilarz 0 Quote

Theres no issues with AMD processors and CM. However there is massive issues with the drivers on AMD gpus w/ CM. honestly I would prefer a AMD CPU but my last laptop fried itself unexpectedly so I had to pick what little selection Best buy had. 0 Quote
Redwolf Posted Saturday at 04:21 PM Posted Saturday at 04:21 PM AMD is on a good run for CPUs. 0 Quote
