Soviet Infantry additions and fixes

Recommended Posts

Now I know that the upcoming BAOR DLC has some additions to the Soviet roster, but I am generally surprised at the lack of some major items from its launch. The main one being the NSV machine gun(1971), as it was the Soviet counterpart to the American M2. This really harms the general Soviet support at an infantry level, and the pkm is more of a gpmg and never replaced the NSV as a heavy mg. The other HMG that could be added is the KPV-14.5, but would be for a reserve role as it was slowly phased out of general service in the 60s, but was still used in the AA role throughout the Cold War. The soviets also have no 82mm mortar, which is very odd since they had been using the M-37/82-BM-3 since 1937. A couple more items that could've been added but aren't too necessary are all of the AT guns employed by the Soviets, besides the mt-12, with the main one being the D-44. Then again, the D-44 was mostly phased out of the main army and mostly used by reserve forces, the VDV and the Poles, who used it through the 80s. The last thing was an issue ive noticed for pretty much all CM games that include the RPK-74, is that it only ever uses the 30 round ak74 mag, but the manual(and icons) show a 40 round mag, yet I have not seen the elusive 40 round mag once(a minor issue I know).

anyways, thanks for reading my little rant

@Bil HardenbergerJust did a quick check. Soviet Motor Rifle battalions have an organic 120mm mortar battery - this is available as on-map or off-map. I could not find any 82mm mortar assets within the above units, though 82mm mortars are available as an off-map assets in the 'artillery' tab.

Thanks George.  I am making a note... no promises, but I'll see what I can do.
