Phantom Captain
Whoa! The pathfinders did their job and I'm on the second mission and the maps are amazing!! The tension is incredible as I have paratroopers dropping and scattered all over the countryside! The Germans could be anywhere... This BP is excellent so far. I started that campaign this morning, just the setup turn. Definitely looking forward to it. Then had a couple hours of work to do. Seven hours later I still hadn't beat the stupid damn sim SW I use and so am still no farther along w CM. Maybe tomorrow ......

Warts 'n' all
Not even "Yankee grit" was enough for these guys who came down in the middle of the village.
Sakai007
as i saw this screenshot, i realized that germans were everywhere. Lost a couple teams on the first reinforcement drop but better then how I would have done with the moves i plotted .

Phantom Captain
Idyllic Normandy? More like terrifying. Beware boys, the Germans are everywhere. Another wave of paratroopers is on the ground! The horrible luck of the draw. These guys landed in open field next to an AA gun. All of them were immediately chewed up by the waiting Germans.
Warts 'n' all
@Phantom Captain A great series of action shots. My guys suffered a close encounter with that AA gun as well.

The aftermath of that brief encounter, 4 KIA, 1 WIA.
Phantom Captain
More blood and horror. My guys dropped right next to German entrenchments at literal knife fight distance. So far, this has given me a much better and clearer understanding of what went on that Night of Nights, 6/6/1944. The connection to real history CM can give you, and the clarity of what those men went through, is really profound sometimes. I know I am totally biased, but I've always said that those paratroopers, green boys who hadn't been in combat before, volunteering to drop behind enemy lines, knowing if the beach landings were thrown back that they'd be on their own, were some of the bravest men ever. danfrodo
Wow, epic and terrifying. We hear about the exploits of the allied paratroop survivors but often forget about the large percentage that died before they could even really fight back.
Warts 'n' all
This mission really does replicate the chaos of that night, like no other I have played going back to CMx1
Phantom Captain
My paratrooper's worst fear realized and still highly effective, even in the dark. Small groups of my men have now started banding together and are slowly working their way towards their objectives while hoping to find more of their brothers before the Germans do. Blood on the hedgerows. A squad of Germans who were moving to intercept us were ambushed in the open road and mowed down by Thompson and BAR fire. Warts 'n' all
Depending where on the map the HMG in the first picture is, it might be one that my boys have just encountered. I still have over an hour left on the clock, and I can't wait for this mission to end. It is a real test of patience.

What I found of particulat interest in this mission is the progressive transition from an eraly period where the player is the hunted game and flees combat, and the latter part where the player becomes the hunter. Nicely done.
