Not only is it martially named, but it's an actual and hard-hitting WW I cocktail, having been invented in 1915.https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/221890/french-75-cocktail/ The only one I knew of before that was the Depth Charge. The one I had wasn't chi-chi at all.
