DEF BUNGIS
Just browsing thru and seen this. Has anyone played the demo? Is the game as detailed as CM? It sure seems to be selling big in Europe. http://cgi.pcgameworld.com/pcgw/news/viewnews.cgi?newsid966938614,27193, ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
Smack
I didnt like it, It was just wierd. But it doesn't mean you wont, so try it out. For really great wargaming though, play Combat Mission!
aka_tom_w
I read its promo material first off it looks good but is it is NOT 3D The game maker's stress they wanted good "game play" over realism. all the units are sprites in an isometric 2D veiw like Warcraft or Age of Empires. I don't really think it is comparable to CM in any way other than it is another WW II video game. But I did not play teh demo as I have a Mac and their game is onlyf or windoze users. -tom w ------------------ <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> "Remember that no dumb bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. DEF BUNGIS
Oh ya smack, like I need to play more Combat Mission...... Lord have mercy, if I play any more CM i'll need to mutate into two people. I just saw this news on Sudden strike and was wondering how it compares to CM. I have not played the demo. Supertanker
I played the SS demo in the long, dark days between release of CM and its arrival on my doorstep. It is pretty much Command & Conquer with WWII graphics. Units have hit points, for example, and various weapons just remove them at higher or lower rates. A group of riflemen could shoot at your KT from a distance and eventually kill it (by erosion?). Something that originally turned me off of C&C was that the Mammoth Tanks weren't immune to most weapons, so that didn't exactly make me want to play any more SS. Guest MantaRay
Yep, it is garbage. Comparing it to AOE 2 is not fair, as AOE 2 is a good game. Tanaka
I´ve played the demo and ARGHHH ... it´s another Warcraft clone, this time in 2nd WW... Download it / played it / Delete it... all in 20 mins,15 mins for the download
gashford
Got to agree with the above, pretty naff compared to CM, in fact there is no real comparison other than PC games in WW2. However, comnpared to games like C&C it isn't too bad, just a modern version which ha learnt from a few mistakes fromprevious games and ignored a few others. But I should imagine that the demo pretty much gives you what you are going to get in the ful version so I would save your money.
RMC
If CM is your cup of tea then you should steer clear of SS. It is a strange breed of RTS. There is no building or research trees. You get your units and a mission. It becomes like a puzzle figuring out the right way to accomplish the mission. The units are standard RTS hit point entities but IIRC the armor takes damage faster from the flanks than from the front. Rifles can still take tanks out. If none of this turns you off, then you might enjoy it, though the replay value seems to be about nil.
Boogie
Tried the demo a long time ago. It's the old idea... different sprites. Definitely not for me. Amazing amount sold, though.

Jochen2
It looks nice - but thats all! If you like to go into the deep (in a wargame) ít is not the right thing for you. Jochen
Greybeard 101st
People I have talked to said it is VERY hard, there are 100's of units fighting and it gets overly chaotic. The screenshots look good for a 2D game, but I think it is going to be way to hectic for me, at 51 my RTS gaming days are close to ending. One preview even wondered how anyone could control up to 1000 units on the screen! This is what the developer said, that many units. CM would be very very hard to beat, its better than any RTS game and TB game I have played. ------------------ -kill 'em all and let God sort them out-
Von Brizee
my chum has it, and yes, there are sometiems something like 1000 units on screen at once, but only for 20 seconds or so until they are all burning wrecks or bloody piles I do like how the weapons actually do have some range to them, and unlike Command and Conquer, TANKS HAVE MACHINEGUNS! That's what pissed me off most about C and C, the only way to kill infantry with tanks was to squish em. But the tanks handled like expensive cars, so it wasn't a real problem. Most of my friends aren't into CM, because it is too complex for them, so occasionally I get a "no brainer" game so I can play against them and smack them around a bit

Only mine would be DEF BUNGISS. (Pronounced DEF BUNGISES) Hey, my NICK has sentimental values. People just wouldn't understand. Any way, back to the SS demo. So from what I gather, the people bying this game are more stradegy gamers than war gamers huh. I wonder how many of them are real wargamers who don't know about CM. Must be livin' under a friggin rock. Maybe we should invade thier forum and spread the word. ------------------ Better to make the wrong decision than be the sorry son of a bitch to scared to make one at all
OberGrupenStompinFeuhrer!
I d/l'd and played the demo to death back in Feb/March or so. The eye candy is pretty nice, but tactics are a bit lame. My main flanking tactic consisted of driving tanks through the woods, blowing trees out of the ground as I went, and stopping to reload from the ammo truck every so often. Then one wonderful day, some clown-boy on the BB over at SS posted about this "feeble attempt at a Sudden Strike wannabe called Combat Mission" and he posted the link. Haven't been back, not even once..... See? Even clown-boys have a purpose! OGSF
