Heh above my paygrade.  Oh wait I don't get paid 😛  You know CMSF is my favorite.  If it were my choice BF would have a dedicated work team just for that family and it would incorporate a whole side business for CM:A.

I wonder what's coming next after BF gets through the hectic work of getting FR & CW released?  Since from Steve it certainly aint Kursk I am guessing more BS and lots of add-ons for CW?  Anyone read between the lines on what's next?  There's lots of speculation and it's hard to wade through. 

Now that I've gone through the phases of grief (denial, etc) on finding out more eastern front is not coming anytime soon, I am actually kinda excited by what we actually could actually get next.

Despite all the bad stuff that happened in 2020, for us at Battlefront it was a very productive year.  True, we didn’t have much in the way of new releases and that’s no doubt a disappointment to you all.  Fortunately you won’t have to wait much longer for something new.

The first thing you’ll see in 2021 is an end to the long wait for Red Thunder’s first additional content; Fire & Rubble.  See below for some screenshots.  This new Module is huge and soon we’ll have the webpages up to detail specifically what’s in it.  Preorders will kick in at the same time.  We’re nearly there!

The next release is Slitherine's re-release of Black Sea.  You’ll see signs of the Black Sea release on Matrix Games’ website very soon.  Other Combat Mission games are scheduled to be re-released steadily at the rate of one Family a quarter, with Battle for Normandy being next up.  As with Shock Force 2, all Battlefront customers get automatic and free access to the Slitherine Steam versions. 

No doubt it’s been noted that we did not announce or release an Engine Upgrade for 2020.  As things look right now, we are headed for Engine 5 Upgrade later this year.  I can’t promise that any of the features being added to the military version will get into your hands, however I expect a couple will.  Definitely not the one that requires a dedicated high end system with 12GB of free RAM and hours of thumb twiddling time while numbers are crunched.  Oddly enough, we don’t see it being a commercially viable feature.

Speaking of the military contract work, there's more than anticipated.  I can’t say much about it other than it’s going very well and we are structuring our development time to make sure our focus remains on the commercial work that you all get to enjoy.  It’s a balancing act for sure.  That said, let me reassure you that we view you guys as our core business and that means if push comes to shove the military folks will have to take a number and wait patiently for our attention.

Let’s see… is there anything else on the horizon that I can tell you about?  Nope, not at the moment.  The year is still young.

And with that, a huge thanks to all of you who have supported us over these many years.  Without you we’d not be here welcoming everybody to another year of Combat Mission.

With the release of Fire and Rubble coming relatively soon, I’m guessing at least one of you might wonder what else we have planned for 2020.  Might as well get that out of the way now as well ;)
 
We are not quite sure what the next release will be, though we know for sure it will be one of the following:
 
  • CM Final Blitzkrieg Module.  This will take the Western Front from the Rein to the Elbe.
  • CM Black Sea Module.  Picture US Marines, Ukrainian VDD, and  Russia VDV forces added to the mix.
  • CM Red Thunder Battle Pack.  A bunch of battles for the late Summer 1944 time period was started a while back and is now moving forward again.
  • At least one more Battle Pack, yet to be determined.
 
And as always we’ll be working on things we’re not ready to talk about plus the customized British MoD version.  We do like to keep ourselves busy!

I don't think Steve ruled Kursk out, Dan, only the period before. Kursk and beyond would make a superb module.

You know, after first the out-of-the-blue CMFI  gobsmack, and now the CW out-of-the-blue gobsmack, I can really see BFC giving us some form of out-of-the-blue 1943 Eastern Front gobsmack!

Hi Steve,

I really hope this feature of having a hat and helmet mixed in with the units to be added to most of the CM games especially Normandy, I want my British/Canadian and Polish paratroopers with berets and helmets.

indeed ... having a hat and helmet mixed in with the units to be added to most of the CM games, but this must be something that you can control yourself and not randomes and depending on the game, i.e. I would like that German NCOs can were a hat, or hat peaket, hat side cap... instead helmet, (just an exemple) !

in random we can not create models of helmet or personal hat, for example a red cross for the doctor foliage net for the sniper ... CM3 where are you  ?

ok let's forget it was only an idea !

As I pointed here somewhere,CM3 should work hard in defensive works that,IMO,look quiet poor right now.I would like to see stuff like parapets,semi-buried bunkers amd new models of them,narrower and deeper trenches,deeper fox-holes,gun pits,another types of wire(like spiral that was widely used),camouflage nets.That would implement the AI defensive capabilities and therefore making it more challenging to defeat.

Say this may be an old question but does anyone have any 'Stats" on the difference between Green-Elite?  I was just wondering what the bonus, or minus was.  I was screwing around with some "Elites" in SF2 and it seemed only at night they had the edge.. probably due to NVG's.  So did a day-night test... they do seem a bit more accurate, as well as the troops in WWII modules.  Was just looking for some hard data.
