Canadian, Dutch, and British lack AAA in QB -- can they get Stingers?

Recommended Posts

So I am currently playing a QB match and have found out that none of these 3 forces have any AAA that they can purchase during a QB match. Leaving them defenseless against Syrian air.

Given that Syrian air itself is sorta aspirational within the setting shouldn't these 3 forces be given Stinger teams in the standalone purchase section?

I was mostly wondering about QBs. I'm playing a match currently where I'm doing some good damage with Syrian air power and it struck me as sort of bizarre that the game would allow the Syrians to use an imaginary force but not the Brits. Given that Syrian airpower is sort of an oxymoron in context of a NATO invasion of their country.

Yes but Syria had an air force equipped with the types of aircraft seen in the game.  Might be worth agreeing some ground rules with your opponent about force picks next time around.  One thing for sure is that the Brits will not get Stingers because they did not field them and I suspect that Battlefront's time is being consumed by getting the Red Thunder module out to consider making models for UK Manpads/close range air defence systems and appropriate TO&Es for them.

I primarily play Red so I dodge that bullet but I picked into a pretty heavy Syrian Air lineup on the basis of the British Army having some sort of AA capability. Now I'm strafing the **** out of his things and it 1. feels weird that the Syrians can do that with no counter-play and 2. is annoying because it removes some of the play/counter-play that makes QBs so fun.

Just throwing a U.S. Army Stinger team into the "specialist teams" option would resolve the issue and maintain any sort of TO&E "rules" that are wanted.

The standard MANPAD in the Falklands was Blowpipe.  The SAS had a few Stingers.  The Blowpipe replacement was called Javelin LML which in turn was replaced by the Starstreak LML which is what would have been issued during the notional 2008 Syria War.  And no they can't just add Stingers, they were taken out because they're not part of the real world British TO&E for that era.

In a setting like SF2, would RedFor (Syria) ever have the breathing room to have actual air superiority over the BlueFor?

No - but people wanted Red air and because Syria possessed an air force but the British did not possess Stingers, Syrian air got added.  The latter is great for the sandboxers who want to create even more fictional Red vs Red 'somewhere in Africa etc' conflicts elsewhere.

As I understand NATO doctrine, if you are down to defending your troops wth MANPADS, something has already gone horribly, horribly wrong (probably due to an unexpected deluge of Iskanders).

Yes.....Yes it is.  B)

The ludicrously long call times and total innaccuracy of the strikes (when using Red aircraft) really add to that third world feel.....They just lob those bombs anywhere!  :D
