OT Unknown Soldier a Finnish Film

I actually only just finished the book (highly recommended) when I notice the Finnish have just released a war film based on it called Unknown Soldier. It's a long one at 3hrs but blo#dy amazing film with English subs.

Reading reviews they say the original TV series is what one should watch.  So, maybe it was cut down to a movie like Das Boot was.

The film from 1955, I think, is better than any of the two newer versions of Unknown Soldier.

The film The Winter War from 1989 is good too. The other films, about the continuation war, are ok and don't have so very much action, except maybe Tali Ihantala.

I saw this a long time when the producers brought it to Hollywood.  The action was good and uniforms etc were interesting.  But, dramatically it was poor.  Couldn't tell any of the characters apart and was confused most of the time.

Winter War from 1989 (or Talvisota) was also originally a series cut into a film. Wish I could get my hands on the original series (with English subtitles) as the film is excellent. The US version was fairly heavily cut.  I have a 3 hour version but the series was 4 hour 20 minutes (I think!).

      I read the book back in the 90s and loved it. but it all seems rather fictional to me since the main characters had so much frickin luck. the veteran was my fav toon . its a great read even if untrue.
