Sgt.Squarehead
@BFCElvis When I run the CM:BN installer it's auto directed to my CM:BN docs folder.....Is this correct or should it point to the actual CM:BN install directory please?

BFCElvis
Both. CMBN is the only one of them that has the Documents folder as the default installation location. All of the others have theirs in directory in Program Files x86 If you installed it somewhere then definitely point it to your installation.

So I should point all of the installers to the actual game install directory (on D: for me).....Sorry for dim questions, but I figure it's better to check?

Yup. Definitely. Wherever you have that installer pointed is where the new exe and brz files will be placed.

Thewood1
So installed as I normally do. I have all CM2 games on my E SSD. Started with CMSF2. Pointed it to the E:\Battlefront\Combat Mission Shock Force 2 directory. It installed directories inside the data directory for a new directory for every CM game and all their data directories and brz files. It has completely messed up my installs. Any suggestions. Seems like nothing is easy. edit...its stuck in an infinite install loop and then crashed. Will try a clean directory and see what happens. It appears it was nesting an infinite number of CM data directories under each other in CMSF2's data directory. The infinite loop happens when the download is run from the only place on your computer that will cause a problem. Inside the game's main directory. Move the download to any location (I normally just use the Downloads folder) and run it again.

Sgt.Squarehead
It worked on all of them, first time, no hassles.....And my antivirus didn't crash my system, even after a restart! Edited May 3, 2019 by Sgt.Squarehead
Thewood1
Yeah, that is the problem. That is super weird that becomes an issue. Never had ANY game do that before. Is that documented anywhere. I have never noted it before.

I pulled my hair out for days before finally asking Martin about it. He told me that is what he thought it was and added "but who would not know they shouldn't do that?" My reply to him was something like "um....everyone? Who would know it would cause a problem is the bigger question". It has been an extremely long time since I've had a ticket on it (I remember it easy enough because of my exchange with Martin at the time) but, now that I have access to do it, I will create a Knowledgebase article about it.

I would put it on the patch page at the very top. Most games I play won't let you install from the Windows 10 Downloads area, and I think the Windows 10 standard is limit exe execution from downloads. I am very curious what CM is doing that cause that problem.
Sgt.Squarehead
A lesser version happened to me, several patches back with CM:BM (it created a CM:BN directory in my CM:BN directory), hence my questioning above. No hassles at all since though.
Ted
This was quite the pleasurable experience. All games patched without a problem. The best part was the speed it was completed. No mirror sites or long downloads like the early days. Of course I was probably using a 56K modem back then
