Trying to recover lost save file with tmp files - can I recover?

I was just starting out my first campaign for Black Sea after playing many of the quick battles and easier scenarios. Having a blast. I was ready to take a break and went to save the Crossing the Dneiper Campaign. I clicked on save and nothing happened. Clicked on it again and it crashed to desktop. I don't see any autosaves, but I do see in the my Documents/combat mission/black sea 3 tempfiles with the timestamp of the exact time it crashed. tempfile3.tmp; tempfile.h.tmp; and tempfile.w.tmp. I tried renaming the "3" file (the largest) to the extension of the sav files and loading but it does not recognize it.

Does anyone know if recovery of my save is possible using these 3 tmp files?
