CanuckGamer
I am just starting a scenario and am placing my units. There are some light mortars that start in buildings. I assume that they cannot shoot when in a building? Is this correct? Thanks in advance for any help.
JoMac
That is correct, and can't shoot Mortar Rounds from buildings...well, except from its own small arms. Joe
Michael Emrys
I don't know if this applicable in FI, but I assume that you could fire mortars from accessible roofs of such buildings that have those. Michael
Warts 'n' all
You don't state which scenario, or which nation you are playing as. But, in my experience only British Paras can use their mortars inside buildings, and that is only for firing "Smoke" rounds. If anyone knows different hopefully they can help you.
Oliver_88
Not unless they are the airborne 2 inch mortars that airborne sections are equipped with. Those can shoot from buildings. However the sections are only provided smoke rounds as standard. However the ammunition between the two mortar types is the same. So get that airborne 2 inch mortar some high explosive through acquiring from an vehicle, sharing from an adjacent standard 2 inch mortar team, or buddying aiding an incapacitated team, and then you can have an airborne 2 inch mortar firing high explosive rounds from buildings. It's only able to do direct fire however so basically becomes a grenade launcher rather than an mortar. There's an video in the thread linked below. CMBN rather than CMFI but probably still stands true. Edited July 26, 2018 by Oliver_88
JoMac
Well, due to the British Airborne exception I have been proven wrong by Warts, and Oliver...Good catch guys. Edited July 26, 2018 by JoMc67

DerKommissar
Can mortars shoot from the top of the building? And if so, which ones?

Was curious so just tried this (in CMBN) on those urban Dutch ones. And the regular 2 inch mortar (not the airborne one) could indeed fire from the top! I presume the same would be true on any CM building that has an floor named "Roof". E2A: So can the 3 inch mortar!
