CMA: 101st Motorized Rifle Regiment BTR-70 By Oleksandr

This mod adds recamouflaged BTR-70 + a tactical sign of “101st Motorized Rifle Regiment.”

101st Motorized Rifle Regiment was deployed in Afghanistan in late December of 1979 and remained there up untill January 1989. It was an active element of  “5th Guards Zimnovnikovskaya Order of Kutuzov Motorized Rifle Division Named After the 60th Anniversary of the USSR” division (and yes this is the name of the unit, yes that long).

101st Motorized Rifle Regiment took an active role in several major USSR operations in Afghanistan.

Nice paint job, love the rims, looks roomy inside too.....I'll take it for a test-drive!  :D

The chipping effects are very nicely done.....One thing a lot of scale modellers add these days, but which I've not noticed on virtual models, is 'rain streaking' where pale looking streaks of dust & dirt are deposited on the hull sides by rain-water.

CMA: Guards BTR-60 By Oleksandr

This mod will add reworked BTR-60 to this game. These vehicles were used by Soviets in throughout the war. They were also used by DRA forces as their main apc.

Interesting fact – these BTRs were used in one of the first operation of KGB + GRU special forces in Afghanistan – Palace of Amin Assault .

It was then when Soviets understood that jumping off this thing wasnt very safe. In that operation few KGB special forces operators died specifically because of the design of these things.

Yet, operation itself was a major success for Soviets. According to Soviet side sources soviets lost only 20 men (5 KGB operators, 9 paratroopers, 6 members of “Muslim” battalion) while killing nearly 800 men (400 men according to western sources) from Amins security forces, including himself and 2 of his sons. Obviusly such kill/death ratio became possible because certain factors were involved – massive usage of supressive fire provided by Shilkas, and additional support from BMP’s.

Anyhow this vehicle is still in use today in many countries, and I hope that you will enjoy this fresh look during your personal Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Fun Fact: while Amin and his guards were so shocked by the Soviet attack - they were trying to contact (via radio) Soviet base (which was located not that far) during first moments of that bloodbath for help. Soviets were telling something like, "help is on the way" lol and Shilkas fire was getting only stronger lol.

Due to minimalism in provided game textures – modding this game is complicated.

Am excited you have enthusiasm for CMA.  As Sgt Squarehead and others noted, CMA is a great change of pace and a different experience from the other CM2 titles. 

Hope you are aware that there are a significant number of uniform mods already available - nearly all soviet (Para; Spetznaz; .Mech Inf; Tankers etc.)  I have about 20 .brz folders of Soviet troops plus others.  Don't want you trying to "reinvent the wheel" so can send em to you if you can't find em. 

The Afghan Army uniforms and skins are the ones that desperately need improving.

Like Erwin says - no use re-inventing the wheel but if you can make already existing mods better - so be it!

Most of the time this brigade was operating close to Pakistanian borders.

Brigade was involved in many different operations in period from 1979 to 1989.

At certain periods in time this brigade was marked as “strenghthened” because sometimes it had rocket artillery battery, 152 mm self-propelled gun battery and separate helicopter regiment in its disposal.

I guess what we need is not a CMA 2 but an update to original CMA. We need moving waypoints + other adjustments to that game engine. We need ability to pick units for quick battles, we need ability to set the length of the battle and we need some unit pack + more maps. Graphically speaking this game is same as other games its just textures to it is painful to touch. We need more sides to this game - certain pakistanian units pack (who were operating in afghanistan from time to time). 

New game is always a trouble. New game is always a bad news. You know why? because everything starts from the begining. New lagging, new problems, new expectations, new dates and so on. We have what we need - we covered most of the scenarios - what we need now is to make developers to go back to their early projects and polish them. Last but not least - paying 35 dollars for new content which will be released faster is  better than waiting for years and paying 65 dollars. To me it is strange that some of the games are still without 2 or 3 unit packs and 2 or 3 battle packs. That would cost less time and would bring more money. But again thats just me - maybe i dont understand it right. But I think that new game is a new headache and old games are still waiting to be polished. 

Modders can bring new textures, modders can even bring new factions but its developing office what can make us happy for real. 

The only new game what I would like to see would be full scale cold war period of 1960's-1970's what will go into full scale real war. 

If modern days game I would say I would be excited to see chinaa against us or something like that. 

But again - those ideas will do next - new game will came out - it will be interesting - then when its be needed to polished another game will came out and none of those games will be polished in the end. Thats what is bad. Between new game and massive updates to old games I would pick paying for massive updates. 

By the way about massive updates of my own - for the Black Sea Game - Im working on one massive mod at the moment.

This mod will provide you with BMP-1D of the 66th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade.

BMP-1D was created in 1982 for Afghan war special. Its armor was increased and because of that BMP-1D (as well as BMP-2D) have lost ability to swim.

AT system was also taken away and instead of that turret was upgraded with smoke launcher system.

BMD was created to increase mobility, protection and firepower of Airborne units.

It’s armed with 73 mm smooth-bore semi-automatic cannon,  3x 7,62 mgs + 3x ATGMs.

I was taken into service in 1969.

This vehicle became a start of a new era in Soviet approach to its Airborne forces (eventhough, there were other VDV vehicles even before BMD family showed up).

Even today pretty much all modern airborne forces tactics of Eastern European countries are affected by appearing of this vehicle.

And appearing of those tactics and vehicles became possible due to one man – Vasily Filippovich Margelov.

NOTE: This mod was updated due to a highlight made by one of my subscribers. Previously I’ve used base blue-green texture but that one was a base color for mountain camouflage pattern. Due to the balance of my CMA mods I’ve decided to avoid  that blue-green thing, and cover these BMD’s with same camouflage I used in my BMP-1 and BMP-1D mods.
