Well, my trial version of Elements was running out so I pulled the trigger and got the full version on Amazon at 40% off last night.  So, looks like I am back in the modding game.
Here's what I need help with. I need a list of German Divisions that were in the Western European Theater from October 44  to May 45. Not having to reaserch this will cut at least a month off the time it'll take to get this mod made. So, if you guys want a portrait mod I could use the research help.

(Following cut and pasted from my RT mod thread)
If you choose to do it, this is how I'd like to see the divisions listed;

 For Heer:

(number) Inf Div

(number)Pz Div

(number) Pz Gren Div

For Luftwaffe:

(number) Luft Div

(number) Fals Div

For Waffen SS:

(number) SS Div

(number) SS Pz Div

(number) SS Pz Gren Div

For Volksgrenadier

(Number) Volks Gren Div

Keep all the branches together and div types together like above (Heer Infantry first, Heer Panzers second etc. with the division in numerical order), and I can easily scan through them without jamming my brain up. Seeing that is how I name the bmps when I mod them it's like muscle memory and makes it easier on me.

You guys could keep adding to the list, and when the next guy has new stuff just cut and paste the list into your post with the updated divisions.

An example of what I am talking about would look like this;

85th Inf Div

89th Inf Div

148th Inf Div

2nd Pz Div

9th Pz Div

11th Pz Div
Etc.

When Fizou helped me (with the  RT mod) he got a lot of his info from the Panzer Campaign series, if any of you own them they are a good place to start.

I appreciate the link but it doesn't really help. Not trying to sound like a jerk ( I am grateful), but having to wade through all the text to find one division here and one there is the time consuming chore I am trying to alleviate. The way they list everything is all jumbled looking and confusing with lots of info I don't need. It might not sound like that big a deal but it brings on fatigue fairly quick when I have read and read and read (+ the abbreviations and German words, etc.) just to find the couple things I am looking for. But it's on the right track, just needs refinement. Thanks Aragorn!

If they at least had a table with a list of links like this, I could click each one and scan the info to find where they served (I haven't been able to locate one yet):

https://www.feldgrau.com/WW2-German-6th-Infantry-Division

It's still a ton of time but better than the alternative.

I did find three Stackpole books on German OOBs that I am probably gonna put on my Christmas list. Again though, many, many hours of info logging. But on the positive side once this stuff is documented it is done for good, barring additions for divisions that were missed.

Yeah, no problem on the FJ abbreviation, I don't know why I didn't think of that before! Duh! Looks better too. VG would also be better for Volksgrenadier.

The best overview I know of can be found here:

http://wwii.germandocsinrussia.org/de/nodes/907-akte-85-schematische-kriegsgliederung-des-heeres-1944-1945#page/1/mode/grid/zoom/1

It covers the whole Heer from 05.12.1944 up to 31.3.1945 (don't know if there is much around for later stages, since disintegration was accelerating rapidly).
It is also a primary source document produced by the OKH (Oberkommando des Heeres).

Now you would only need somebody to go through this to produce a list like the one you have in mind .. not me though.. ;)

Thanks, Mike. I took a look. I may use it if nothing better comes up but man, that's a brain breaker. I'd have to use it about five minutes at a time.  LOL.

Mord.

It's a lot, to be sure. But it includes all the eastern front as well as the Italian, Balkans and Northern (Denmark, Norway) theatres.

If, for CMFB, you're only interested in the direct western front in the classical sense (so, Benelux states and France), it would be quite easily do-able for the months from December 1944 to March 1945.
So I could do one listing for each of the four months, let me know if this would help. It would still be a long list for each month though.

That would be a great! Just please use the abbreviations I listed above and I then I can just cut and paste them into a master list that I can mod from.

A far as regions go, yep, just concerned with what FB covers, Germany included. Time period would be from October to May but whatever you can do will be good.

Month by month would work, because that way I won't be making seasonal background portraits for units that were destroyed. Or you could just make a regular list and annotate it if that saves time.

Example:

1st Inf Div (Oct-Dec)

I would know that I need to make an Autumn and Winter Background.

or

2nd Inf Div (Oct)

I would know the division never made it past Autumn.

Appreciate it very much.

A quick and dirty for Heersgroup B, being the forces in the main used in Wacht am Rhein as quoted by Pallud in BoB Then and Now

I'm not sure whether the 15 Armee units are Infantry Divisons, or VG, or a mix.

Plain text is perfect, all I need is the name and number Example: 1st Inf Div, 1st Pz Div, 1st SS Div and special stuff like Führer-Grenadier-Brigade Pz Div, it's a quick short hand for when I am scanning and modding. What you just posted works, I can reorganize it how I need. Excellent! Thanks!

EDITED: OOPS! Any way that you can post the next group without the formatting? I can't cut and paste directly. It's breaking each line into separate pieces.

Again, thanks!

Looking good, Mord, but would you mind adding the 34th SS Gren. Div. (Landstorm Nederland) please? A rather unknown unit, but as you can see in the second link it was involved in quite some fighting in the South of the Netherlands in 1944 and 1945.  It had it's baptism of fire at Arnhem during Market Garden btw.

No problem. Any division that survived past CMBN's September end date will be added. So, October 44 until the end of the war for this mod. It's funny 'cause I was just looking at that one earlier today, it was the only SS infantry portrait in all of the CMBN mod. Everything else SS, was armor and armored infantry. No worries my friend! I will make it as complete as possible.

I got the notification you posted and I was gonna type the same thing to you. That's funny! But I guess it's day time for you. I never realized you were in England. Has your location always said that? If it has I am getting as senile as Emrys.

For February 1945 (10.02.1945), I only looked at units which have not been mentioned before. This is what I came up with:

Wadehn (8) Fals Div
805 Inf Div Special Purpose
905 Inf Div Special Purpose

So, not so many additions.

Of course, some units had left the Western Front by this time, most notably the 6. Panzerarmee with all the SS Panzer Divisions, which went into the Eastern Front reserves.

Will do March 1945 a little bit later on.

Excellent. At this point because they will be using a winter background all I need is the extras to fill in the what's missing. So, that works great.

I am going to start researching the CMBN portraits to find out which ones made it past September if any. Most likely there'll be bleed over, I am counting around 88 divisions just from what we have gathered here.
