Now that the Russians and Iranians are 'in the tank' (rimshot) for Assad, I suppose he doesn't need to worry about the Republican Guard tanks becoming too dominant relative to regular Army. Mind you, 4th Armoured Division is under personal command of Maher Assad and is always at the flashpoint of the moment.
