markus544
I noticed the other day that a Marine artillery unit was deployed to area about 80 miles from the bad guys. Now they are in country I saw on the news clip that there was a Hummer being followed what appeared to me to be Stryker infantry carriers noted by the 50. Cal mounted on the remote controlled unit. I didn't know the Marines used the Stryker vehicle, or is there more to the story that I'm not aware of.
akd
Those are Rangers, not Marines.

Muzzleflash1990
Is it correct understood US is planning to send conventional forces, a BCT from the 82nd Airborne, and maybe MEU (24th MEU?), into Syria? Looks like Shock Force is becoming even more real.

Muzzleflash1990
Maybe planning was too strong a word (unless it happens to end up true), but they are certainly considering it. But they 82nd are transporting to Kuwait. Rather recent: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2017/03/15/u-s-military-probably-sending-as-many-as-1000-more-ground-troops-into-syria-ahead-of-raqqa-offensive-officials-say/?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.983fc5b50469 "The new U.S. troops, if approved, would probably come from parts of both the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit — a flotilla of ships loaded with 2,200 Marines that is now steaming toward the region — and the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, from which 2,500 troops are headed to Kuwait." Sgt.Squarehead
Sounds about right for a Marine artillery battalion and assorted supporting units, so pretty much what they said they were going to send. I'd guess the 'supporting units' might include some that could become involved in targeting for the guns, I'm sure wiser & more experienced heads can advise. PS - I'd like to think this report, also from WP might have some bearing on the situation: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-administration-inviting-more-than-60-countries-for-strategy-session-on-countering-isis/2017/03/08/80ea2468-0452-11e7-ad5b-d22680e18d10_story.html?tid=a_inl&utm_term=.07327705806f As an outsider looking on it seems to me that 'The Orange One' is doing his best to avoid having the world end in a series of brilliant flashes.....Mebbe you lot should persuade your media (& intel community) to at least let him try. Never thought I'd find myself saying this TBH.....I mean, Jesus H Christ on a bike, Mohammed on a moped, Jehovah on a jet-ski & Buddha on the bus (equal opportunities blasphemy) how did it all come to this? Muzzleflash1990
It is not a marine artillery battalion, only a single battery, which is the usual attachment to an MEU. But yeah, wiser heads can tell us what is going on.
Sgt.Squarehead
It was the comment about unit caps splitting up units that made me assume it would largely be artillery deploying (to reinforce the units already there).
