John Kettler
Faced with pretty much a widespread mutiny, Navy officials executed a 180 and tossed into Davy Jones's locker a PC move which abolished the time-hallowed ratings for enlisted personnel. Thus, the Navy will once again have yeomen, signalmen, radarmen and other ratings, regardless of gender. The Navy is proud of its traditions, and the flak officialdom got from the ranks was overwhelming. But in the best traditions of bureaucrats everywhere pushing an agenda, it reserved the right to revisit it in the future. I had two uncles in the Navy in WW II, and Dad served four years during the Korean War. They would've had apoplexy over the mere thought of abolishing titles going back past the American Revolution, since we got ours from the Royal Navy. Thank goodness sanity has returned, even if it took veritable institutional revolt to bring it about https://www.yahoo.com/news/move-scrap-beloved-us-navy-titles-tossed-overboard-182120126.html Regards, John Kettler
