roodboy
I am used to the old cmbo cmbb and cmak games and just bought red thunder because my old favs dont run on my new windows 10 laptop. My favorite ways to play were small quick battles usually company level or smaller with a few vehicles on small to tiny mapsLooks like in Red Thunder you have to buy big units and delete down to the allowed point value.I read this thread but still can't get down to one tank or one platoon:My questions are 1) how to just get one tank or one platoon of infantry, I can't seem to pare down that small.2) is there any way to randomly generate maps like the old games?3) can someone point me to map that I can download? Thanks, Edited January 7, 2016 by roodboy
MOS:96B2P
<Snip>My questions are 1) how to just get one tank or one platoon of infantry, I can't seem to pare down that small. You start by purchasing a large unit. Example: Panzergrenadier Battalion Motorized. After you purchase the large unit it will show up on the right half of the screen. Click on the + sign next to the unit to show all the sub units. To delete a sub unit click on the sub unit to highlight it. Then at the bottom center of the screen two gray buttons will appear that read Delete and Rename. Click delete and the sub unit up above will be grayed out (deleted). Then the delete button turns into a revive button in case you change your mind. Some HQ teams can't be deleted since you must have a chain of command. I just deleted the above mentioned Panzergrenadier Battalion Motorized down to a Company HQ team and one platoon HQ team. At the very bottom left of the purchase screen there are also options for setting the experience, motivation, fitness, leadership and appearance of the entire battalion and / or individual squads and vehicles. Equipment choices are available in the very bottom center along with having mortars on map or off map etc. Edited January 7, 2016 by MOS:96B2P
76mm
Also, note that things like company and battalion HQs can be tricky to delete if you are going to to a couple of platoons, but usually it will be possible, just keep trying...no way to randomly generate maps, but no huge loss, most of them were no good. There are a couple of hundred very good maps available with CMRT, although not all of them formatted for Quick Battles (in CMRT they need an AI plan, etc. to be used in a Quick Battle). If you like smallish battles, you should also try some of Seinfeld Rules' scenarios, they are small and quite fun.
IanL
1) how to just get one tank or one platoon of infantry, I can't seem to pare down that small. The thread you linked is a good one to read on this subject. As @76mm mentioned deleting the HQ units can be challenging. The trick is they have to be the last to go at their level. You can only delete the Company CO after you delete any non platoon units that are attached (usually an HQ support unit or XO unit or vehicles and occasionally an AT asset) once those guys are gone you can select the HQ and delete it.As and example to get one infantry platoon purchase an infantry battalion and expand the top level. Select each company except the one you want to keep one at a time and delete each one. Then delete any top level battalion units and then delete the HQ unit. Now expand the company you kept. This time select each platoon except the first one and delete it. Then delete any top level company units and finally the company HQ. Now you have what you want: a force of one platoon. With the platoon label selected you can now attach any specialist teams you want to. For example you could add a breach team to the platoon or a sniper team. 3) can someone point me to map that I can download? The place to look is the scenario depot. Here is a direct link to CMRT maps: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/search-2/#search/category=CM+RED+THUNDER+[MAPS] but you can also look at scenarios on the site and you can open any QB or scenario that comes with the game in the scenario editor.

roodboy
My next questions is how do you load a map into a quick battle?Should I place downloaded maps in a particular file so that it becomes one of the maps the quick battle editor sees?

roodboy
Just tried a quick battle with a gift for guderion map as germans, figured I was attacking town troops got jumped by armored cars , that were setup adjacent to my troops at first turn. Doesnt make alot of sense to me.Is there a way to make soviet force start in town and defend bridges opposite german deployment area?I must be missing something, any help is appreciated.
76mm
I'm not sure what that map is, but it sounds like you might have used a scenario map for a quick battle. As I mentioned in my previous posts, to be used in Quick Battles maps need to be "formatted" in the right way, including by having an AI plan and often, a set-up zone. You could take the map from a Gift for Guderian scenario and convert it into a QB map by adding the elements above, but unless you do that it sounds like you'll have odd results.

76mm
The manual doesnt mention a word about quick battles.Yes it does--see pages 111-115 of the Engine Manual; you may have been looking at the CMRT specific manual, which just lists the units in CMRT, etc.
