DiehardmaxNL,

Russian recognition marking on IS-2 for what we call the Battle of Berlin.

Russian IS-3 Budapest, Hungary 1956. The locals used to run out and stick a Hungarian flag on an invading tank. Not good if one of your own came around the corner moments later and... The tanks were, after all, buttoned up.

Image 12 here is from the Invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. It appears the locals were none too happy with the Russian tanks and dumped buckets of paint on them, doing quite the number on the TC and a fair amount to the driver.

My personal favorite so far is a bright red equilateral triangle painted on the turret roofs of whitewashed tanks for the Leningrad Operation. Thought that would look cool in a diorama.

Regards,
