Combat footage from Ukraine

It was interesting as I had thought that the crews were supposed to stay in the armored transports when firing missiles. You'd think they would be vulnerable to counter measures outside.

Counter battery fire has a longer reaction time than just the few seconds a missile salvo takes, plus they also cant just drive away after firing a salvo. It will take at least a couple of minutes to get the vehicle back to road march configuration. Given the risk of a misfire/a missile detonating inside the launch tube or near the launching vehicle, it is probably safer outside, 50 meters away from the launching vehicle, sitting in a trench. Now of course those missiles have in-built mechanisms to prevent a premature detonation, but it still happens from time to time. I remember reading a news paper article recently that was about a shell exploding in the barrel of one of Autrias M109 howitzers. The result was 2 injured, one killed.

These videos from the Ukraine look like they could have been shot on the road that leads to my house.... Lots of foliage, familiar housing, street signs that would make sense to me if I were there.

It is even worse when you are living in Europe. The road signs in Europa all use the same color/shape code, so driving down a ukrainian street with burning APCs on the sides doesnt look much different from what it would look like in any other country in Europe, except for the burning APCs.

am hoping a talented designer can use Euroscape mods to create Ukrainian scenario with "Red vs Red".

Those are waiting for CMBS most likely...

About tanks driving near your house:

This video shows 2 different types of T-72 in rebel's hands (and remember that Ukraine has no T-72), besides, it's Worth to note the use of a gloss green paint (prolly the commercial spray paint in cans we all have access to), used to add slogans and markings to the vehicles. We should have most of these vehicles in CMBS, although I am not sure about the older type of T-72 with ERA and the MTLB with ZSU arranged on top... Russian green on tanks never looked more dull to me.

"It was yours, now it is ours, thank you brothers Ukrainians"-says separatist female fighter near the captured Ukrainian APC:

Confimed loses of Ukrainian aircraft:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ukrainian_aircraft_losses_during_the_2014_pro-Russian_unrest_in_Ukraine

Very interesting interactive map of the conflict maintained by several bloggers:

http://cassad.net/?do=warmarker

The flashing red points to the se of Donetsk: 7.000 Ukrainian troops are surrounded near Ilovaysk. It is confirmed here http://inforesist.org/itogi-dnya-26-avgusta/ by official Ukrainian army source and dramatic appeal for help by one of the National Guard commanders who also accuses the army headquarters of treason: http://inforesist.org/semenchenko-zhdat-bolshe-nechego-nas-obmanuli-v-ocherednoj-raz/

Note, that English version of the same website completely ignores situation of surrounded forces and provides international reader with a map that not only gives no single clue about it but deliberately shows lost strategic points (like Saur-Grave) as Ukrainian controlled: http://en.inforesist.org/situation-in-the-ato-zone-27-august-map/

Ilovaysk, place of the fiercest battles during last weeks:

More Ilovaysk footage (can overlap some previously linked videos)

Are you from eastern Ukraine, Ashez? You seem to be able to read cyrillic script, you seem to have some quite detailed infos (like the one about the IFF markers), you seem to be more affected by the conflict than others here and you seem to have a slightly pro-speratist attitude.

with the whole situation going on in ukraine the west reminds me of those 12 year old kids who talk a lot of trash and makes a lot of threats but never really go through with anything they say

http://beta.images.theglobeandmail.com/e47/news/politics/article20221713.ece/ALTERNATES/w620/not-russia.jpg

should be given to Russian troops so they dont get lost and find themselves in ukraine

Its not the first time they've "officially announced" a Russian invasion, although its pretty hard to argue its not happening now. With the way the Ukrainian army has been performing against relatively small numbers of militia, they're going to get smashed right quick if Russia decides to go all out. They seem to be timing it quite nicely with whats going on in Syria, I guess hoping that everybody else is too tied up in that to stage an intervention. Personally I cant see any kind of major involvement happening from western nations unless the ruskies march on Kiev, although im far from any kind of expert.

There is no 'new' invasion.

Russians have been there for a long time providing armor, weapon, specialist gear and personel to man it. It is estimated there are around 1k regular Russian troops (volunteers -officially on the leave) and 4k Russian mercenaries. It is also highly probable that Russian staff officers are the ones preparing separatists' operational plans. There is no 'hard' proof but many clues exist.

The current 'invasion' outrage is more about concealing the disasters of Ukrainnian army.

Ukrainian private TV stations keep finding new proofs of treason in Ukrainnian headquarters and hundreds of people in Kiev have demanded the Ukrainnian president and head of the staff to answer for poor leadership and take immediate actions to free thousands of surrounded Ukrainian troops. The crowd is actually torn between different demands. The radicals strive for greater military effort while families of surrounded soldiers demand immediate ceasefire.

The morale is poor, whole units desert or surrender. Here, the Ukrainian journalist confirms

http://reporter-ua.com/2014/08/27/cherez-blokpost-v-zaporozhe-pytalis-proehat-400-vooruzhennyh-soldat-pokinuvshih-pozicii-v

that territorial defence unit of 400 soldiers decided to leave the fight and go home. When halted they gave away their gear but refused to give hand weapons before they reach their home place.

To add fuel to the fire after Putin's appeal separatists offered to create a corridor to let surrounded Ukrainian troops through (after disarming of course).

I really like Vice News. Pretty solid journalism.

EDIT:

some more footage, a bit old but still interesting: Russian tanks in the town of Torez:

I really like Vice News. Pretty solid journalism.

Headline on the same site:

'All About the Pacific Ocean's Newest SUB: Supersonic Underwater Bull****'

So probably not solid at all then ... just hysterical rabble rousing.

I have no dog in the Russia-Ukraine fight but don't call something solid journalism when it isn't.

I refered to the way they prepare reports about world armed conflicts.

Too bad for you, as this thread is about it. In fact your posts are counterproductive as they detoriate from the subject and contribute nothing.

I honestly think they should be deleted.

And here - an interesting video of Saur Mogila- a place of fierce battle over the last month. It is a strategically located hill and burial mound giving the controller an unobstructed view of several dozen miles in all directions:

Note that war memorial -pictured here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savur-Mohyla#mediaviewer/File:%D0%A1%D0%B0%D1%83%D1%80-%D0%9C%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B0.jpg -on the top has been completly destroyed.

From said story:

The theoretically totally awesome news is that if you move something through the water fast enough, the bubble created by cavitation gets enormously large, and it really starts to cut down on the drag experienced by the vessel.

I'll get my news elsewhere thanks.

Obviously dont know vice, they have very good docs and the articles well generally suck and the writers take their share of bashing for it. Basically stick to their news site and avoid the crap stories youll see the difference.
