Trooper
After the guts of two years of running around in the mud carrying a rifle, if I'm lucky, or an MG if I'm not, they <finally> put me onto an armor course. (AML Gunnery/Commander). Barring the time I spent driving a jeep that is. And I've always been a cavalry trooper. The Irish philosophy is that every soldier, sailor and airman is trained as an infantryman first and then given education in his particular field. In my case, it was relevant because most of the squadron serve as dismounts using the infantry tactics and weapons. This said... My personal sidearm in the AML would be a Browning 9mm pistol. There isn't much room in there for a rifle. We were trained in infantry tactics using infantry weapons, and sorry to any Rambos that actually use a handgun as a combat weapon, but if/when we have to bail out of the AML, unless there's an immediate threat to our lives that requires us to shoot, we're going the other direction. Laying down suppressive fire whilst moving around the flank with pistols isn't going to work. That's my personal real-life viewpoint. As far as the game is concerned, as long as the victory points or campaign system recognises the value of trained crewmen, I'd work on the basis of 'if the game allows it, do it' DWH Manic Moran
