SUGGESTIONS FOR BTS FOR CM2

Ok I had some thoughts on possible enhancements for play in CM2 Hope it is something we may see

would it be possible to adjust the styles of defense to incorporate prepared defenses into a map?

IE basically thre are two types of defensive battles IMHO

A prepared defense and a hasty defense

the prepared defense would allow for things such as purchasing dummy tanks/at guns, ratholing or destruction of buildings, additional mines laid. It would also allow for the preperation of buildings to accomodate reasonably sized AT guns ( unless of course it was a massive structure). IT would also allow for the placement of Dragons teeth etc etc.

THe hasty defense seems to be what Cm1 will cover is it possible to incorporate some/all/or more of the features listed above for CM2?

Well, the war in the West rarely encountered fixed positions. Other than the Metz Forts and the Segfried Line (of which only Metz offered much of a problem) there were usually just hasty defences. In CM2, if it is in the East, there will be more heavy defences. Trenches, bunkers, and dummy vehicles will abound! Indeed, it will be interesting to play the Germans and actually dread about the impregnibility of Allied armour!

Some of this you can do.

Not possible. This would be more of a strategic asset anyway. Dummy tanks were not used on the battle field. Their main purpose was to fool Aerial recon. I know Rommel used dummy 88s in Africa on the battlefield, maybe that will be a feature in CM3...

You can place rubble in the editor. You can also have burning buildings placed there. You can purchase and place as many mines as you want. However this is a function of the scenario designer. You may set it up though so the player can place the mines.

Not possible unfortunately.. I would like the option to hide tanks in some buildings added also. Perhaps for CM2.

Again, not represented. You can however place roadblocks and wire in abundance. The roadblocks would do nicely to represent dragons teeth IMO.

You can with some imagination set up a pretty nasty prepared defense. Even without all the aspects you mentioned above.

If you re-read Bills post, what he was saying is that MOST of what you want can already be done, and that dummies were used at the strategic level, not the tactical level.

Note: 'strategic' does not refer to battalion and above (despite what the title RTS on numerous games might have you believe), rather at Corps and Army level - ie many miles behind the front line.

Dummy installations, tanks etc were strategic considerations and not tactical considerations. They should make it into any version of CM IMO.

Even the prepared defence shouldn't have them since they'd be abused in PBEM games and used in an unrealistic manner. When dummy tanks were used they were issued en masse at the command of Corps and army commanders and not spread 1 or 2 per kilometre per battalion.
