Frankster65 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Another interesting looking scenario. Downloaded and in the cue! Thanks for the work on this. 0 Quote
Buzz Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Loaded it to see the start set up. Looks entertaining. Thanks Mr.X. 0 Quote
jkobmadrid Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 ***spolier*** first 2 scenarios are great. but the third one was an "headache mission". and mining up one of the objectives with dozen AP mines, was end of story for me. quit button. pity. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 First of all, thanks to Frankster65 and Buzz @ jkobmadrid: Come on...you are calling the "Santa Maria" Mission seriously a "headache mission"? I cannot believe your words...this mission shouldn´t be a problem for any CM-player, who has the experience of about 1-2 missions against the AI... Don´t forget, you are fighting against some second rate Italians It would be interesting to hear the opinion of other players but usually the feedback in this forum tends towards nothing... The first user-made campaign for GL up to now, some months after release --- 131 downloads so long --- three forum-comments --- one repository-comment --- two 5-stars ratings (the third 5-stars rating was placed by myself, I confess )... One must be a real masochist to invest his free time in keeping alive this great game 0 Quote
sburke Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 don't let it get to you the community is only talkative when it is arguing over some infinitely ridiculous minor detail item that only a grog could care about. And then we'll run on in a 300 post thread. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 That´s my impression, too. The usual comment, many designers get, sounds like that: " Your campaign/scenario is not fun, because I wasn´t able to get a total victory with my first attempt...." or " the scenario xy is not fun, because I didn´t get a total victory after saving/reloading 500000000 times..." or somethings like: "Although CM is a realistic simulation, I don´t want to play realistic scenarios, because I always want to feel like a winner...." 0 Quote

One must be a real masochist to invest his free time in keeping alive this great game hey, come on. i take my hat off for everyone creating a scenario. really. i know how hard it is. so, way to go Mr.X. and yes it's 2nd rate spagetti soldiers, but... i just that i hate close quarter combat. and CM doesn't simulate them very well, but this is another discussion. anyway, the second one is great. but Mr.X, ***spoiler*** did you have to mine everything up? i know you're were gigeling when you placed them. 0 Quote
Buzz Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I will get GL Welcome to Sicily going for the Holidays but I just started Men With Suspicious Hats so need to get through this one. The last patch is making CMFI/GL look and play much better on my Mac. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 @jkobmadrid: It wasn´t me there were some German Engineers in the area and I couldn´t stop them, placing their toys By ending the last Mission so early, you have missed some really really heavy Crackers, which had helped you to reduce your anger about the mines Regards Frank 0 Quote
Jaeger Jonzo Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Started fighting this one out the other day. Spent the whole day fighting mission 1, thoroughly absorbing and challenging as well as atmospheric! Great map too. Really enjoying the assault commando aspect of it, Thanks for your efforts in creating it 0 Quote
Frankster65 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Haven't gotten to it yet but it is next in line after I finish my current one. Looking forward to it. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Hey Jaeger Jonzo, nice to hear, that you have fun with the campaign so long please, give me a small Feedback, if you have finished the fightings... Regards Frank 0 Quote
Erwin Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 +1 Am really enjoying the recon aspects of battle #1. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hey Erwin, I tried to make the missions as a mix of everything...from the beach-landing to house to house fighting...and I am glad, if you have some fun with the campaign Regards Frank 0 Quote
Erwin Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I find my biggest mistake with scenarios that are designed so that one has to do recon at the start is that I try to accomplish objectives with my "at start" forces instead of waiting for reinforcements and the "big guns". I never seem to learn that one has to have patience in these CM2 games. Of course it tends to mean that one spends the first 2/3 of the game sneaking around and observing (and staying alive) and then a massive crushing assault in the final 1/3 of the game. However, I really enjoy these types of scenarios, so looking forward to the rest of the campaign. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Anybody, who finished the campaign and destroyed the resistance of the Italians in Santa Maria? Regards Frank 0 Quote
Jaeger Jonzo Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I'm still on the first battle, it takes an age! Only got a couple of mins left though 0 Quote
Jack Ration Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 The Naval Cruiser appeared as support. My current on-map FO is not able to call support. I presume there has to be a naval FO? At what stage does this unit appear? (If it does!). Or am I missing something in the mechanics of naval bombardment (thought it would be the same as artillery, aircraft management). thx 0 Quote
sigop22 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 What a great campaign. Only on mission 3 so far, and it's a toughy. But the first two were such nail biters. Hopping between dunes on the first left a pucker or two. Especially having to try and sneak past defences to get to the MG bunkers. Very good. Mission 2 was excellent as well. Trying to find ways to pin down those cars with the big gun was very trying. Like the campaign brief said though, there is lots of time. My only complaint is that the victory factors seem off. While it was a total victory on the second mission, the first mission ended in a draw for some reason. I held all of the victory points, had HQ's in the green boxes, and no Italians left save for that small villa west of the airport. Considering there were only fifty Italians left and they were nowhere near any VP's, it made me confuzzled about the DRAW. Otherwise though, I love these missions and I can only hope you make more. Keep up the great work 0 Quote
Frankster65 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Currently playing it myself. Still on the first mission sneaking my way through the dunes and just about ready to try and kill some Pillboxes. Beautiful looking map if I may say so. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Thanks for your comments I am glad, if you have some fun with the campaign. @ sigop22: I am confused, too - normally you should get at least a victory, if you have captured the v-zones + killed most of the Italians...even, if you have got high own casualties...strange result... @Jack Ration: Normally, there should be no problem with the FO to call in the naval support. But during the first and the third Mission, you will get the battleship-artillery as reinforcement - so, your FO has to be patient until he is free to destroy the nice Sicilian Landscape Regards Frank 0 Quote
Jaeger Jonzo Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Really enjoying the 2nd battle too As a Brit myself, getting to use various commonwealth elite troops &specialists in challenging tasks is great fun. The maps are a delight and watching my marines or paras clambering over the rugged Sicilian terrain is very immersive. Great work mr X. 0 Quote
Mr.X Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 As a German, I am very glad to hear such a compliment from a British Player Thanks Jaeger Jonzo! Regards Frank 0 Quote
