xian
Just loaded up the 1.10 demo for fun and I notice that whilst playing 'Road to Berlin' that my 60mm mortars now use 'craterless' ammo. Does anyone know if this is a bug or is there a 'crater' hotkey?
Sergei
I don't think they've gone anywhere. Light mortars just don't make craters on every hit.
Michael Emrys
Light mortars just don't make craters on every hit. Which strikes me as realistic, since their explosive power is in the same order of magnitude as the more powerful hand grenades, which don't seem to make craters either. poesel
60mm mortars never make craters. I've tried using them for the dispersion tests but after the smoke clears the grass is still green.
permanent666
maybe this scenario uses the new terrain type pentalawn

Sergei
60mm mortars never make craters. I've tried using them for the dispersion tests but after the smoke clears the grass is still green. I'm pretty sure that they sometimes do - but, not every time, and the craters are really small. All I got from a few minute point strike was four or so craters in the target area, and I had to really zoom in to see them properly. It's easy to miss them, and there's also a chance that a strike does not produce any.
c3k
The 60mm craters only appear when the mortar shell has fallen into a hole in the ground, such as gopher hole, fox den, rabbit warren, mole hill, etc. The complex underground network of small mammilian tunnels is completely simulated in every map. (BTW, this is why the loading screen hangs at 29%. It is well known that this is "the tunneling effect" oft spoken of by physicists.) Obviously, the crater only occurs if the fuze itself hits within the hole. This is rare, but not impossible. Moon
I may be wrong, but from what I recall, a crater may appear after multiple hits to the same location, even with a light mortar (or handgrenades for that matter).

Michael Emrys
You are forgetting the hole that the White Rabbit went down followed by Alice. Michael

fry30
Its a good thing you wrote tongue in cheek, people would have been really confused. [not sarcasm -EDIT] By the way, my screen hangs at 29% too, I guess I have gophers in my computer too. Shoot.
