Tank repairs.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Fairly new to this forum lark, although long time player of the Combat mission series. Thanks to Duckefuzz for guiding me through the mods minefield, he was right, they DO make a BIG difference!!

My question is, once a tank has been damaged / imobilised, and the crew are intact, is it possible for them to repair said tank, ie track repairs etc??

thanks in advance.;)

Nope. Beyond the scope of the engagements modeled in CMBN.

well thats the question because givin a rather big scenario with about 1,5 to 2 h time limit i think it would be possible for an experienced crew. i`ve heard that a complete track (one side) replacement costs a veteran crew about 30-45 minutes time. off course the terrain would affect the time needed.

also not every track damage modeled ingame would need a complete track replacement. in some cases the tank just bogs down and gets immobilized in the initial part of the scenario and stay there till the end. in reality the crew would try to simply unbog the tank and go on.

maybe the game should handle immobilization due to bogging down with some chance of unbogging the tank after some time.

Whether or not they were also under fire might have something to do with it too.

:D

You can get an idea how this might work in game - dismount (bail out) your crew after the tank bogs. See how long they stay in command/alive. If more than an hour then it's probably possible but mind a great deal many repairs/boggin/immobilisation required specialist help from the recovery crews and that was often done under cover of night.

Vehicles can be repaired, but only between battles, only in campaigns, and its done entirely without input from the player. In campaign battle #4 you might just see that immobilized tank from battle #2 appear again ready to roll. This is why its to your advantage in campaigns to keep firing on an abandoned/immobilized vehicle til its ablaze. In single scenarios it doesn't make much difference.

I always kill abandoned or immobilised enemy tanks. It's the only way to make sure. Quoting corporal Hicks of course ;)
