Ukraine War Plans Leak Prompts Pentagon Investigation

Classified documents detailing secret American and NATO plans have appeared on Twitter and Telegram.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/06/us/politics/ukraine-war-plan-russia.html?campaign_id=190&emc=edit_ufn_20230406&instance_id=89600&nl=from-the-times&regi_id=77867169&segment_id=129786&te=1&user_id=06eb42ecc9056dd32ea63af0c30707b6

News is fast breaking and no other major online news source has came up in my search, so apologies for the paywall.

The publication of this information isn't really that much of a problem for Ukraine because the source was probably the Kremlin.  In other words, they already had the information in hand.  And given how many agents Russia has operating with Ukraine, I'd be surprised if they didn't have a pretty good idea what was going on even without these documents.

So it seems the main purpose here is to wage a disinformation campaign to help motivate Russians to fight.

  3. DefenseOne reports that the anti-drone system labelled as “10 mobile c-UAS laser-guided rocket systems" that was included in today's defense package are these:

    Quote

SAIC used BAE’s APKWS laser-guided rockets, which achieved a 100-percent hit rate, the company representative said.

And at less than $30,000 apiece, the rockets are cheaper than Ukraine’s larger air-defense missiles, said Greg Fortier, the vice president of SAIC’s Army Business Unit.

Finns are very glad to join NATO. Many NATO beers and liqueurs have been and will be popped today! ("OTAN" translates "to drink alcohol" in Finnish)

I hope this will materialize in much more support for Ukraine from us. At least all the three biggest parties have stated UKR support has been too little and too late, including from us fins. With the limited packages, the government has always added that the fact we are outside NATO is limiting our support.

They say they deliver to anywhere in the EU if somebody wants to buy some to join in the celebration:

Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announces critical new security assistance for Ukraine. This includes the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance with more ammunition for U.S.-provided HIMARS, air defense interceptors, and artillery rounds that Ukraine is using to defend itself, as well as anti-armor systems, small arms, heavy equipment transport vehicles, and maintenance support essential to strengthening Ukraine's defenders on the battlefield valued at up to $500 million.

In addition, we are announcing a significant package of air defense capabilities, as well as artillery and tank ammunition, mortar systems, rockets, and anti-armor systems using $2.1 billion in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds

  6. In this 12 minute interview, this German colonel provides some details about Russia's efforts in Bahkmut.  He says the Russians have accumulated 10% of their total casualties fighting for Bahkmut. He expects the  "thaw period" in the weather to last until the end of April, after which more active operations will be possible.

RUSSIA WILL SOON BE ON THE DEFENSE, BUT THEN WHAT?

    Quote

Mike Kofman joins the show yet again. This time, he explains why the debate over the wisdom of the Battle for Bahkmut is so important while still overshadowing other important debates. As Ukrainian forces are being pressed out of the city of Bahkmut, they preparing to go back on the offensive, which will put Russia on the defense. The critical issue in Mike’s view is what happens after the Ukrainian offensive.

Would it be possible to limit the name calling, "rural dimwits" "right wing looney's" and focus on the war in Ukraine?

    Thank you.

It makes one wonder if there if there are other discussions forums out there that do a better job at sticking to the war.

    I found these other forums:

He definitely has some expertise.  I do understand that the Israeli active  armor defense and iron dome systems provide some good capabilities that would be nice to have. I do wonder if he is a little biased in support for them given his Israeli/Jewish ties.

It was an OK podcast. My takeaways were that the GPS signal, by design, is so feint compared to background noise that it's relatively easy to jam.  And such jammers are becoming cheap and commonplace.  If you want to improve your resistance to jamming, give your device a focused antenna that only looks in the upward direction for the GPS signal and not omni-directional.  Finally, other major powers, Russia and China, overcome some of these GPS signal limitations by using powerful terrestrial-based location signal generators that are much less resistance to jamming. The US would be wise to match that capability.

    Quote

Zelenskyy has publicly stated many times that the Ukrainian objective is to kick every Russian out of Russian occupied Ukraine. And that is a significant military task. Very, very difficult military task. You're looking at a couple hundred thousand Russians who are still in Russian-occupied Ukraine. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm just saying it's a very difficult task,”

Romania’s navy said Thursday’s drills in the Mahmudia region of the Danube Delta, which flows into the Black Sea, would demonstrate how the combined forces would “neutralize an enemy air landing” in an area adjacent to such a waterway.

Zelensky's read of Putin is exactly what was missing from that intel officers article. A mafioso mind, and about as trustworthy.

Is it better for Putin to think he's being successful at Bakhmut, or failing?

If he thinks the's being successful, maybe he will take more risks offensively that will end up backfiring spectacularly?

    Buuut.....

This is more a curiousity post about something they spoke of. It isn't about weather they themselves are who they say they are,  but about whether what they note is accurate and/or realistic.

Thoughts? What band radar are they talking about?

FYI. The guy that maintains that blog and says he his has corresponded with the Ukrainian Volunteer for a few years - according to the blog - is this writer on defense topics:
