  1. Thanks for the advice . I fully expect my good friend Dave to kick some, but I'll give it a go. You never try, you never learn .
  2. I think they communicate, but if the mortar crew can't see the target (a unit or an area) I think they would have to be called in for indirect fire, which would take a few minutes. I don't think they'll 'blindly' fire based on another spotter's info.
  3. But they have to go through the indirect fire procedure unless the gun crew also has the spot and can direct fire. Or am I misunderstanding?
  4. I see your edit in the first post. I'm just starting a PBEM in CW having never played it before. It'll be okay won't it ? As for your question on a graphics mod, I don't know but others may...
  5. In other news, I'm also about to start a CW PBEM against @Ultradave. I have never played CW, but as Dave put it 'it's what he trained for'. Should I be worried ? I don't think we'll need to post an AAR, I already feel something in the air... artillery . And TOWs.
  6. I'm sorry my friend, I feel I'm partly to blame for this . Anyway, yes we're close to kicking off...
  7. You're talking about me now aren't you ? We need a slight adjustment to our game and then it'll be plain sailing I'm sure. That would not be an issue, anyone can beat anyone (at least when I'm involved). What might be troublesome for me is that I'm yet to play either CW or BS. Both of us are somewhat busy just now anyway but I'd be happy to oblige at some point once I can at least tell my RISEs from my non-RISEs (ooh err missus).
  8. We'll see, but I'm in the UK as it says over there <---, with FTTP broadband at around 650 to 700 Mbps download. Loading up the initial turns in PBEM++ was instantaneous but they are the 'password' turns with not much meat in them. As for Dropbox I have to manually press the download button, maybe because I'm not using Whose Turn Is it or CM Helper?
  9. Hmm, that's a shame. I'm playing everything else via Dropbox but I thought I'd get with the program and play this new PBEM via PBEM++. I think I still will, more as a test than a logical choice, and I'll report back how we get on.
  10. I hear ya, thanks. So it's still in guinea pig status it seems?
  11. Just saw this Andrew, you need to make @BFCElvis look like this @BFCElvis by selecting him from a dropdown list as you type. No doubt you are my granny and I'm sucking eggs . As I'm just about to start a new PBEM++ with @Centurian52 what's the latest word on the street with respect to PBEM++ issues?
  12. Nice work JM. Are you sure that's their bayonet ?
  13. Possibly. If it could be 'togglable' that keeps every bugger happy . Charles may have other things to think about though...
  14. I've heard otherwise, you were top of the charts when you were in the Hitlerjugend . Anyway, sounds like my 500m Sherman kill was pretty good?
  15. Totally agree, but I'm not sure how to improve on it anyway. It works for the purposes I mentioned but it sometimes obscures other things. I can live with it for sure as turning it off isn't the answer for me. Adam is of course right that in RL there are no transparent buildings, but we're not in RL we're playing a game which gives us a slideable scale middle ground between realism and playability. It works for me.
  16. I was about to say 'according to the manual / aka RTFM' but it doesn't say. I have been using some in a late war East Front PBEM though, and one took out a Russian Sherman at about 500m with a HEAT round. I loved it, my first RCL tank kill I think .
  17. Adam, your question rate is impressive . I know what you mean, but I think it's intended to quickly show you that your units are in the building, or that enemy units (or part of) have been spotted in those buildings. I occasionally find it unrealistic, but I don't have a suggestion on how to improve it. Do you?
  18. I thought so as well. Hiding is not normally a good thing if you want a unit to spot (and communicate that). I learned the lesson when I hid everyone and T34s rolled straight past my troops with PFs, no shots at all were taken at perhaps 10m range.
  19. Dave, I hope you're not referring to the 'inappropriately dressed' clickbait you get with those images .
  20. I realise it's not yet pedantry Friday, but it is of course 'Saukopf', pig's head. Here's a nice video (especially if you like wheels ) filmed at Fort Benning in the US of A. No concrete on this one though if you're looking for that...
  21. As far as the game is concerned, from the Downfall manual: StuG IIIG (Concrete) In a desperate measure to improve the outdated StuG III's protection against antitank weapons, some units made field modifications to their vehicles. In one such version, concrete was poured over the casemate to form a new layer of armor.
  22. Il fascisti. Yes it's true, I can't speak Italian. While in Rome and its more modern suburbs, I found some Mussolini buildings which were quiet bombastic, like this: As a building, I don't mind it. And I kinda like that it hasn't been erased. And now I'll shut up as I'm obviously not condoning the Mussolini regime .
