Eicio reacted to Combatintman in Anyone care to comment why no NATO army uses/used anything like the RPG?
RPGs also come in various flavours - the RPG-18 for instance is essentially a Russian version of the LAW. I think therefore we're getting tied up in nomenclature. If you boil the thing down to the essentials, RPGs are manportable short-ranged weapon systems that can be carried by a single combatant in which a rocket comes out of one end of a tube and exhaust gases from the other end and have a reasonable chance of knocking out a static armoured vehicle up to 500m and a moving one at 300m. The Charlie G, LAW, Panzerfaust etc which were, and still are, widely deployed in NATO forces are all exactly the same when viewed from that perspective. Therefore there is nothing particularly uniquely Russian/Soviet about the concept of having such a weapon system.

Depends on the specific weapon, but something like a LAW or AT-4 is just as simple to aim and fire as an RPG. Same with the SMAW and Gustav as well. They use the same simple iron sight and trigger/button to fire concept as the RPG.

Part of it is conception. The RPG, like the Ak series, is just a very prolific weapon system.
The US has operated a number of equivalent handheld AT weapons since the introduction of the RPG, such as the M72 LAW, the AT-4, the SMAW, and the Carl Gustav. The Gustav being the closest in concept to the RPG. Disposable launchers tend to be pretty cheap, especially the LAW and are very similar in effect to the RPG. IIRC the Army is actually expanding its use of the Carl Gustav, which can fire different warheads (like the RPG) and can fire many warheads out of a single launcher without wearing it down (also like the RPG).
The javelin is a different type of handheld AT weapon, seeing as its guided. It is more related to an ATGM than an RPG.
Not a bad question at all. I'm sure many others have wondered the same thing.

Eicio reacted to Vacillator in Bear claws
Just finished Bear Claws, great fun dropping the buildings with the Sturmpanzers to get LOS/LOF to tanks and clear out those pesky US infantry. Thanks to @MeatEtr!
All Sturmpanzers survived but my infantry took some sorry punishment.
Was interested in the Allied air support which was new to me, and which buzzed around for what seemed like ages. What the heck did it drop here?
Anyway it appeared, just as my flakvierling was moving up. First turn with it on attack, strafed my infantry with little result. Second turn, same again a bit more damage this time. Third turn, strafed its own infantry, say no more but I was grateful. Fourth turn flakvierling fired twice on it, and it strafed distractedly with no results. Fifth turn, with no obvious reason my flakvierling crew dismounted and ran off (perhaps ground fire from a long way away). Sixth turn, as per picture above, no damage done at least to my troops. Seventh turn, a more nasty straf on my infantry. Eighth turn still buzzing around. Ninth (I think) had turned for home. I suppose 9 minutes on target is not a lot but it seemed like forever?

Eicio reacted to A Canadian Cat in Using Editor to do a simple qb like scenario
The AI plans only had orders for two groups. A1 (in the unit list they appear with no label) and A2. I reviewed the plans and made sure they all did something and that there was a passenger dismount for the armoured infantry to use - one plan did not have one. Then I reassigned the armour to one group and the armoured infantry to the other (I for got to memorize which was which but in the unit purchase screen you can see.
I ran a test and got a two pronged attack. I did not test both AI plans just one but I think that will get you on track.

If you attach the scenario, that would be best for getting an idea what might be amiss.

You'll probably have to send some screenshots of what you actually did in the editor. I'm more of a scenario rather than a QB expert having only converted an existing QB map for @37mm's Heaven and Earth CMSF conversion. What little I do know is that you do not have to assign units to AI slots when making a QB. Conceptually they are simple but doing them well is a bit of an art that not many people have mastered.

Eicio reacted to danzig5 in Porsche King Tiger is missing from quick battle
Hello, I have recently returned to playing CM Normandy and have noticed that while present in the scenario editor the Porsche turret King Tiger are not present in quick battle even when set to June 44 Heer. I own and have activated all the expansions including the vehicle pack, so I am thinking this may be similar to the situation with the M8 HMC from a few years ago.
I mostly play drop in quick battles online so I would love to have access to this vehicle.
Unrelated, but back adding the Wasp from Italy to Normandy would be splendid in some hypothetical perfect update.

It is a thing that crops up across most of the titles - certain pieces of kit that are in the editor aren't available for QB. Even though I go nowhere near QBs It is something that needs a fix for sure.
