Albert DuBalay got a reaction from sttp in The year to come - 2024 (Part 2)
What about AI for pixel troopen that would (1) not run into mine fields when those have been clearly marked by engineers and (2) not run into a rolling artillery barrage (kind of stopping before) …. Overall just little smarter pixel trooper when it’s about their virtual life 😁
That too nobody expects it 😬

I play CMBN every day. Usually playing through CMBN's campaigns co-operatively with a friend at the rate of two moves per day. Playing co-op is a great simulation since you have control of only half of the force and personalities differ. Lots of fun.

Is no one playing CMBN anymore ?
Well lets try to kick start it with a few pics of my most recent and still ongoing battle:
Cromwell and 6pounder guarding a bridge.
Rivercrossing with suppressive fire from the Cromwells.
German Panzers guarding any entrances to the objectives.
Mortar battery ready !
Smoke covers the rivercrossing and a Cromwell transitions to another fire position.
A Churchill Crocodile clears out a german held forest. Screams are heard somewher in the woods.
In the back a Sherman Firefly keeps a overwatch from the woods.
One Cromewell climbs out of a trench.
Another Cromwell was not lucky at all. He spotted a Panther, retreated a bit back and bogs down. This is where the Panther spotted him....

Yeah I was going to say people will be keen to frag Jar Jar.

I wouldn't mind being able to level some 155mm artillery at Jar Jar. 😁

How about having a little more hope. Like CMx3 BEING CREATED AND IT WILL PICK UP WHERE CMx2 leaves off at.
so continue to work back in WWII but also able to take what has been done in CMX2 and at a quicker pace convert those games into CMX3 versions.
I also wonder if what trends as the best period for sales will not change in the near future.
There is a reason as to what is the most possible period. What is the majority age of the buyers and where their interest lies.
For the younger groups that will become the majority of players in this hobby, they will determine what is the period of most interest. Not what the old guard likes, which is getting smaller all the time since age and health is taking them out.

Hi There - Volunteering if you are still looking for opponents. Never used the PBEM++. Always been against IA but eager to give it a try.
Cheerio 😀

As posted by someone else the other day, here's another one with John Cleese and company:
And with that I shall stop, it's silly and a bit suspect I think...

Also wargamers are a somewhat special faction among gamers. They often have rigs that rival the period they are interested in in age. 😉 One of the dev blog entries for Armored Brigade 2 mentioned that while they now do 3D they want low detail 3D that can run on older machines - because that is what many of their potential customers have. There are many here who still run on Windows 7 (or even older?) so sticking to legacy stuff is not necessarily a bad idea.

That is a terrific idea! Essentially a nobrainer since most of us would instantly buy them. And a *lot* easier than pie - to make happen.

I have some thoughts about your post, but you'll have to wait a few months before I post them 😉.

I would like to see the French army ^^
It is not present in the modern CM games and just a few scenarios in Fortress Italy.
Furthermore, although I liked Battle for Normandy for the various operations covered, it lacks the liberation of Paris by the 2nd Armored Division (supported by the 4th Infantry Division) which closes the Normandy campaign. I hope to see it one day.

BF have always pooh poohed chances of early war or NA as apparently those theaters didn't sell well. But, maybe if increasing numbers of our voices asking for those keep rising...

Albert DuBalay got a reaction from benpark in Second Front
Thank you so much for pointing me Ln'L game series. I did not know at all it was existing and it is just bliss. It is even 100% Mac compatible. Thank you man. May the Avalon Hill's God of SL and ASL bless you forever !!
If only they could make the them with SL or ASL counters .. I would die (aah me be not !) to re-play some of the SL Crescendo of Doom scenarios on my computer.
Though Combat Mission will remain my go to for tactical combats and always my fav.

These two games have a commonality that I picked up on, as well. I also like that one, and the Ln'L game gets the randomness down in my book better for something of this type.
Ln'L also has had a great art department, with (probably/maybe still) Marc von Martial doing his thing with the maps (since CC!) and (probably/maybe still) Nikolas Eskubi's counters. It's no mean feat to get a consistent look down for a game. Second Front's developer made the assets, I believe- I think he also sells them on the Unity store, so there may be some cart/horse criticism that the game contained oft-used stuff, when he made the art in Second Front in the first place. If the infantry were re-worked, I'd probably never give the look too much more thought.
I think part of my liking these two games in particular is that I really don't buy many board wargames (unless something with a really spectacular map!), and gave up on my (Napoleonic) miniature painting long ago. Second Front is like that desired miniature board diorama set-up, and Ln'L is a boardgame without the set-up/space commitment/tear down. And CM is for seeing how things may really have played out (and will remain my mainstay, due to its Editor, simulation properties, and other fine offerings). I'll give thanks to the computer on that one, but will miss the chance to someday set up a massive display of paper and cardboard nonsense like Drang nach Osten or Streets of Stalingrad in the middle of everyone's business here at home.

Ammo consumption limit to prevent units from using all their ammo on one target. It would be nice to set the firing frequency of the units so that I can let them use less ammunition when the units are low on ammunition.

Albert DuBalay got a reaction from Commanderski in Engine 5 Wishlist
1- being able to follow up and tell how one is doing on achieving the victory conditions (vs. Waiting end of scenario to know for sure)
2- to keep vehicle wrecks and building rubbles in campaign mode when returning to a map or area already played in a previous scenario of a campaign
3- being able to set markers on the map
4- in campaign mode keep a more detailed records for each pixel troopen and how they’ve been doing.
5- a medal board for the pixel troopen
6- to be able to choose a squad (or tank) leader personified to one player with the aim to lead him to the end of the campaign

"Follow" command that works in terrain or on roads, and duplicates the waypoints for each following unit so adjustments can be made.

Well, it seems that Apple's deprecated OpenGL is a billion times better than AMD's ongoing one
I wouldn't be too concerned about this.

Albert DuBalay reacted to Ultradave in Been 10yrs, need a quick recap
Apple is eventually eliminating support for OpenGL. My guess would be there is no further work going on at Apple to do anything to better accommodate OpenGL graphics, so what's there is all there will be. I will say my new-ish M2 MacBook Pro with all its graphics processors does pretty well. The difference to my old one (2018 i5) is staggering. The map is rendered much farther out and camera movement is nice and smooth. Even the initial setup of "The Citadel" in CW is useable (couldn't move the camera before with the old MacBook Pro.
